  1. Oooh, thank you for this! Your previous video got us talking about what we might like to do to increase our privacy in the back yard. So I'm thrilled to hear all these specific ideas for us to look into and discuss. Sharing both online and with my family!

  2. I love that you included the "not all privacy is fast" portion– never hesitate to remind all of us that plants take time!! 😅

  3. I would add some ideas, but you used all of mine. Lol i will say that i use plants in the garden for privacy in key areas of my house as well. I don't want to have to keep all of my blinds shut or curtains closed just to have privacy. I would rather have them open and have a view to my garden and natural light inside my house without having to give up my privacy.

  4. Bamboo doesn't overwinter here, but I have heard of a few miscanthus varieties that behave and grow similar to a clumping bamboo in size and slow creep! I have areas with pergola and trellis that I use a mix of vines that completely fill in most summers. Difficult thing is finding easy-growing vining plants that don't take over (virginia creeper, english and boston ivy, wisteria, grapes to a lesser extent) or self-seed extremely freely like the morning glories that are the main plant currently in my yard's seed bank! I like a mix of giant sunflowers with pole beans or morning glories as living plant ties in places where I want height, but haven't yet chosen a tree.

  5. This is the first time I am hearing "berm" as a thing. Didn't know they had a name :). I have a level backyard. Is a berm of 20 ft length X 5 ft width X 1 ft height considered too small for a bern? I can't go any wider or longer as it would take up too much space in my yard that I want to reserve for other things. Is it also reasonable to use a berm as a way to divide between two "rooms" that are intended for different purposes.

  6. I think I said this on the last video but I loooove love this series….. I really want a loooot of space from neighbors in the house I'm buying next year but for the sake of my budget I might have to compromise on property size, but these ideas are def making me feel a little better about that!

  7. Way around the fence rule is plant arborvitae or yews. Code Inspector can't do anything about it. And I should know. I'm employed in Planning and Zoning

  8. Hello and how are you Eve Super much more ✌💏💏💏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋💪📯🎹🌷🌸🌼🌵🌾

  9. Watching from the UK – thanks for super ideas. I'm in the process of creating a minimalist garden with a minimalist budget – started with potted bamboos in a raised bed. You've prompted me to check out pergolas near the house. Great videos😀

  10. oh wow it never occurred to me to grow bamboo in large pots. I've been trying to figure out what to do in my tropical yard since I know so few tropical shrubs and trees that can take the heat and alternating monsoon and dry seasons. I can totally imagine using bamboo in pots to screen the view of the plunge pool, the terrace and vegetable garden from people walking by while I learn more about local options that can be more permanent.

  11. we live in the mountains, and a well ordered wood stack of aspen rounds between two trees and 5 feet high shields us from the neighbors.

  12. We’re working on privacy that’s also a property line border. We’re consider evergreens because we love the majesty of them but now I’m not sure because of what you said about planting the same species and them being wiped out due to disease, etc. Neighbor has a black metal fence and a dog. Would like privacy because every time we open our garage door & side door, their dog announces us and they are often out there. Would like quick privacy solutions. Other side neighbors are building a pool and don’t want the noise or ppl looking into ours due to our decks looking right onto the other. What can we do?

  13. Thank you, I moved into a new build a year ago so the garden was a blank canvas and overlooked on all sides. I built a pergola and put some trees in. Also, planted fargesia bamboo but all the leaves fell off! 🫣 It's heavy clay soil so I mixed in some compost then later added clay breaker and a fertiliser. The garden is in the UK, south west facing and the area is slightly exposed to the side of the garden but not against a fence or wall as I was using it to divide the garden and create a boundary for a seating area. Any ideas as to what happened and how I can revive it? I don't think it's dead I think it's severe leaf drop!

  14. My parents have struggled with invasive bamboo in their yard for over 20 years. It's a huge problem to the point where they've had to burn it to the ground and it still comes back. I would strong advise against it.

  15. Do you place the instant privacy option (like a containter tree) closer to you or towards the neighbor if it's a two story neighbor vs my 1 story home? I have a neighbor behind me across the alley, and they have a large camper that's taller than my fence. Just want to block their view but also remove the eyesore.
