  1. I struggle to take Good care of our garden, I lack consistency, have a difficult climate, and have a newborn and a prescooler. So l want to grow "Easy" stuff. Herbs, flowers, pumpkins, zucchini, etc. Also I'd like to have fruit trees and berry bushes, as I'm confident in juicing and making jam and compotes.

  2. My family ended up with 3 papaya trees & 2 avocado trees coz my kids used to just spit or toss the seeds to the backyard. We grow bird’s eye chilies, kefir lime, curry trees, bokchoy, napa cabbage, green onion, shallot, garlic & tomatoes. We eat loads of sambal aka chili sauce here often made with chilies, shallots, garlic & tomato. It’s kinda fun to grow our own food. When chili price skyrocket, we don’t need to worry about it coz we only need to pick them from the backyard. I also grow herbs & potatoes lately which cut down my food bill significantly

  3. We grow to save and for the love. For $15 in seed, I put up all the tomatoes we need for an entire year. I also focus heavy on potatoes, onions, leeks, basil, beets, cabbage, peas etc. If you focus on the long term, gardening can reduce the grocery bill to very little.

  4. I garden because I love it but this year it will be to focus more on what we eat on a regular. With all of the flooding in California, this spring and summer are going to be rough at the grocery store with prices.

  5. I garden because of how food is grown. Many vegetables here in Britain come from Spain and as far as Morocco. Especially the gore exploits illegal immigrants, there are now illegal strawberries farms that fight illegal Wells drying out a nature reserve. Plus they are grown in vast fields of monoculture. However soil health key to climate crisis! On another note my town has a community garden around a derelict church and people can help themselves to fresh vegetables. There were also number of fruit trees planted in a different area so once they mature people can take food from there. And did I hear right there are parts in Canada where u can't collect rain water?! Good grief. Love from Scotland.

  6. 1. I love it! 2. Expanding this year due to food prices 3. I grow grapes on the outside fence for the neighbors to pick 4. Good for my mental health! Plant a seed slow down & watch it grow

  7. For me I think I will try and grow most things because I want to create a community food forest here in Ontario. Just saving up for a rent to own down payment but its my life purpose. I want everyone to eat healthy and affordable and I want to give away free food sometimes at the Farmers Market and to the shelters and food banks. I also want more food and native flowers for the pollinators and the amazing wildlife.

  8. hey sista with the stunning hair my gardening costs thus far in 2023 has cost me Β£0.00 as all of the seedlings growing are from british organic food i ate last year and saved the seeds from them which i do every year i havent been in a shop or supermarket sine dec 2019 i dont give my money to the 1%

  9. pineapple, corn, and watermelon are probably the things you DON'T want to grow cause they're so cheap

  10. I used to grow a large supply of squash, my mom would ask me when I was going to eat it. I told her never since I don't eat squash. It was such a face plant moment since I grew it only because squash is easy to grow and grows well in my region. Ever since that season, I've mostly grown tomatoes, basil, chives, green onions, butter lettuce, and cucumbers. It's so fun and now we're saving so much πŸ™‚

  11. The prices of everything have gone up dramatically in Europe. Time to get growing a garden!

  12. i garden because it really sparked my interest a couple of years ago, and so i can eat fresh, organic fruits and veggies. i also love to spend lots of time in nature and that just goes hand in hand with gardening. thank you for this video

  13. To know I can do it is the number one reason but definitely to combat insecurities. Also it is helpful to have something to focus on other than the everyday things. Fresh air is wonderful ❀

  14. We definitely grow to save money because most of our diet is produce and it can get quite expensive. We used to be really close to a lot of good stores but now we live about 15-45 minutes from most places and so it's not feasible to shop 3-7x a week like we used to. That alone greatly increased our food cost because we had more things going bad than we used to. We started growing greens hydroponically and even though there was a high startup cost for that it paid for itself fairly quickly with how fast store bought greens go bad and the fact that we like to have salads at least once a day. So now instead of driving to the store or paying for delivery multiple times a week we can go every week or couple weeks and still have greens. Plus they are so much better than store bought! Since then we have expanded to growing a lot of other fruit and veg and just love it. Only downside is now store bought veg is always disapointing!

  15. How do! UK here. I have a small allotment. I'm on a very low budget. I also have autoimmune arthritis. I have had to organise things carefully in order to grow food, which is essential for both physical, nutritional, and mental well being. I no longer work, so I am able to do small bits at a time. My plot is arranged in a manner that is suitable for my particular disability.

I grow borlotti beans for winter storage and seed storage, and bush beans and pole beans to eat in summer and share. Also grow summer squash, plus winter squash/pumpkins for storage. Also grow late potatoes for winter storage. I grow giant and micro mustard greens, and some pak choi, peppers, chillies and onions. I have a tiny orchard of 3 pears and a plum tree, plus current, raspberries and strawberries. Plus a few odds and ends. Sometimes grow tomatoes, but they are susceptible to blight round here.

It doesn't always go to plan due to weather, bugs, disease etc, but I don't do too badly. I live in a flat, so the plot is also a place to chill out, entertain friends, or just lie in the hammock if too tired.

Best wishes to you and yours.😊

I safe seeds from everything. Allotmenters share and swap plants and seeds.

  16. Herbs and tomatoes "pay" for my garden for sure! Herbs are also nutrient-dense, so I think they're great for people food insecure. Buy potatoes and beans, and add greens/herbs from the garden. I've been food insecure several times in my life, childhood and as an adulthood, my heart is with you if you're struggling right now. β™₯

  17. πŸ‘ Such great insights as always! My big focus is on fruits because those are so expensive here and are mostly imported which is so terrible for the planet 🌎 Growing veggies mostly because my kids are more likely to eat them if they pull them out the ground themselves πŸ€ͺ

  18. I garden because one I love it and two everything taste so much better then anything you can buy anywhere!😊

  19. I garden simply as a means of cutting our family carbon footprint and as the fruit and vegetables in the UK have had a price increase then it makes sense for me to grow our own and be self sufficient in that way, rather than not being able to afford it from the supermarkets. Plus ienjpy eating fresher food from the garden as it tastes better

  20. You’re soo fabulous! Loved this video……I’m ready to start my organic freestyle garden!

  21. I garden for food security and so that I know what is in my food! The peace and fulfillment that it gives me is just a bonus πŸ₯°

  22. I also factor in the purity of the produce. Too many store bought produce has been recalled the last few years. Canning, dehydrating, fermenting, freezing and fresh eating as well as giving my 88 yo Aunt fresh produce. I grow my own herbs then dehydrate them but also use them fresh.
