Soil temps are a vital part of ensuring your plants thrive once planted. If you plant something in soil that is too cold, the plant might not be able to take up nutrients, not grow, slowly suffer and sadly not make it!
Luckily, it’s really easy to check your soil temp! Look for a soil thermometer at the garden center or online, and make sure you check your soil temp before planting sensitive plants like dahlias (60-65 degrees F soil temp), tomatos (65-85 degrees F soil temp) or sunflowers (60-70 degrees F soil temp).
Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for this information. I just started my tomato seeds yesterday thank goodness I brought them in.
Wow Janey I had no idea ,tks so much😊
Where do we get a soil thermometer?
So important for those heat loving plants! My average last frost is May 10 but I usually can't plant my tomatoes and peppers out until June 1st. My raised bed soil can warm up a little bit sooner though!
Can we warm up the soil with black landscape fabric or plastic? Or once removed to plant would it get too cool again?
What and where do you get this thermometer
I’ve been holding off on planting my huge bag of glads, but with all this rain I’m worried they’ll never get in.
Nice information 👌👍
Thanks
Good to know!
