  1. You’re very easy to listen to, sir. Thank you. I’m hoping to build a small bed when I move into our new town house. Do you have any tips, or videos with tips, on how to take measurements for the wood before assembling? I’ve never built anything with wood before.

  2. A friend of mine is using old tyres to grow his potatoes, he uses three tyres and adds new compost.
Flexible hoses are so much easier and lighter to move around than the old style hose.

  3. I live in Canada in a cold winter north, would you recommend insulating along the inside of the boxes that are 24" high

  4. OK, this one got my third thumbs up for 2022. Great production, no BS, no irritating background "music", and very informative. Thanks for all of it.

  5. Thanks found your jelly video awhile back now I’ve got three 4×4 gardens n my neighbors are beginning…now to can cuks tomatoes and beans ….oh my…I did dehydrate sweet potato leaves & it’s really increased nutrition in hidden ways 🙂

  6. Which direction is best for the 4×8 beds in full sun? I have asparagus to transplant in one bed and okra to plant in another. Would 4 foot sides on E – W make too much shade for the long rows?

  7. Extend the life of wood beds by "staining" with food grade linseed oil. It protects the wood from sun and humidity. It can be reapplied yearly at least on the outside if you don't want to empty the bed. But should be able to reapply to at least the top foot or so as well as exterior as soil settles.

  8. Why are raised beds necessary? When I was a kid on our farm, we never tried to make a 100 hectare field into a raised bed? Hahaha.

  9. I learned a great deal about raised bed gardening from watching your videos. I built a 4’ X 8’ as my first and made it with two layers of 10” stock so it is the perfect height for me. I like it so much I decided to add two more and fence the area in. I laid out a design of three feet apart at the sides and added three more smaller beds 4’ X 4’ at the ends of each of the larger ones 2’ away. I realized as I built my second large one that the ground i put it on is slightly uneven and overall it slopes about an inch or two in one direction. Will this make a difference at all? I put the beds on what was a lawn area and the drainage is good on the whole area.
    Thank you

  10. So good Scott. Really helpful. Thank you – I am a true fan of yours and live in Southern Spain, Almería. I live in the only desert in Spain, but you been a boon to me (even if I have to make the rare adjustment because of the heat and dryness here). ¡Muchas gracias!🤗😘

  11. What about the treated wood , what type of treated wood to avoid, your wood looks shiny, how to make look beds shiny without treated or harmful chemical use? Thanks Scott

  12. Hello Gardener Scott maybe you could do a video on using kiddie pools as raised beds with big holes drilled in the bottom? I have done this for years but feel like a Master Gardener would be best to tackle this topic.

  13. I like this set up. I have plenty of land, but the issue is deer. They eat up everything around here. I could try electric fences I guess

  14. The steel beds have a possibility of changing ph levels of your soil, not a big amount i think but the wood is more organic.

  15. Fairly new to the gardening world. Doing raised beds this coming early Spring. The best option for these bed are in a landscaping rock section of my yard. Should I clear out the rock so it sits on dirt? Or can it go directly on the rock? I was thinking to lay landscaping fabric on top of the rocks first. live in Colorado, and our soil is pretty much all clay.

  16. For spacing between the beds, think about how wide your lawn mower is!! Unless you just want to do a lot of weed-eating.

  17. I plan to do raised beds with cattle trellises and I'm trying to decide which direction east or west or north and south I should have the trellises going? We plan on having multiple beds in multiple jealouses as my wife likes to grow vertical. The area that we have is wide open to the south The privacy fence is on the north and there's no trees in this area. So which direction would you have your trellises going? Thank you for your opinion

  18. Also….I built your box. 8×4. How should I space my plants…..or plan the crops? Are 1ft by 1ft squares too small? I know certain plants will need more space.

  19. I am growing my first garden with my 8 year old great nephew. So watching your videos will be so helpful. Thank you!

  20. I don’t understand why it’s important to weed in between the beds. Why is not weeding that a mistake? If you aren’t trying to grow anything between the raised beds, why does it matter?

  21. If I had to transfer 5 year old soil from an old raised bed to a new one… will the soil be ok? Will that harsh movement kill the microbes?

  22. What causes this purpling? I had it wipe out a whole winter crop this winter, now I cleaned my whole area with bleach and sure nuff 5 weeks into seedling prep, it's has turned up again in my indoor garden I'm prepping for the outdoors
