  1. Try washing the soil off to protect the roots when separating seedings. I started Roselle for the first time this year. I can't wait to see how they grow.

  2. Cool! I grew up in Hawaii and I have never grown hibiscus from seed! I’ll give it a try! It totally reminds me of home.

  3. Spring has sprung! It's amazing how fast they start to grow when things warm up. Roselle is very common down here in FL/Caribbean. It makes a great hedge and will re-seed itself every year, if you leave it alone. It may die back in the Winter, but it will come back 2-3x bigger the next Spring, so plant it somewhere that you don't mind it expanding into. It can get a little out of control, if you're not careful, but that's a good "problem" to have.
The calyx at the base of the flower is a deep, rich red color that looks leathery, waxy almost plastic and that's the part you want to keep, remove the seeds, let dry out and them make "tea" with. It's not really brown/black "tea" like you get in the store, but it does make a very bright, red drink when you steep it in hot water that's like the best all natural, sugar free Kool-Aid ever. It's a bit tart, so folks mix in a bit of sugar, or use it as a mixer for the color, like grenadine. It also has tons of Vitamin C, as well. Once dried the calyxes will keep for ages and you can give them away, sell them etc…too.
You should also get some decorative Hibiscus plants for the flowers. They're huge, easy to grow, and look super "tropical". They will also usually die back in the Winter and re-merge in the Spring, or you can keep them in a pot and bring them inside. You can usually find them at regular Home Depot/Lowes/Nurseries too.
    Cheers from N. FL!

  4. I just checked my hibiscus this morning. The roots always grow so vigorously. This year I tried deeper containers (almost 5 inch deep) and the roots STILL came out of the bottom quickly lol. I sowed 60 seeds. Last year I sowed 72. I grow it every year so I can make sorrel, cranberry sauce, and tea.

  5. You two are so cute! I just subscribed once I found your channel. Please keep the videos coming. I really resonate and love the vibe come from your channel ❤

  6. I struggle thinning seedlings too 😅 your hibiscus seedlings have rooted very well and will make awesome gifts. I'm working on growing my own herbal tea too 🤩 Thanks for sharing.

  7. So many things to do with Hibiscus. Can make Hibiscus tacos, in bath soaks but might stain your tub potpourri ..so many uses

  8. I started 3 types of roselle/hibiscus for the first time this year for tea & my landscape and I was so surprised by how quickly they germinated. Waaay faster than the seed packets indicated. And my germination rate was about 99% too 😂 We'll see if I can find space inside to pot up all 40 seedlings… I'm in 6a so we've got a ways to go before they can head outside 😅

  9. Wow!! You’re growing hibiscus from seed?!! Now that’s impressive! Also, I’m a new subscriber! Your channel is great! – Taryn

  10. So relaxing, loved this video. Making your own tea sounds soooo nice. I've been thinking about growing butterfly peas for the same reason! Homemade tea mix as gifts … amazing. You said "feel free to comment" just as I was finishing typing this so … HI!
