  1. It definitely feels like the longest winter on record. It’s been so mild that it tricks you into believing that spring is right around the corner. If we have snow up until March I can handle that, then it doesn’t seem like forever until spring.🌷💚🙃

  2. I know that I shouldn’t probably say this but I hope summer doesn’t come too soon. If it gets hot right away I’m doomed. I have big plans for my garden this year and if it gets too hot I’m done for. I can’t take the heat anymore it makes me sick😢🌷💚🙃

  3. I’m making a sempervivum container this year. I have a container that fits into an old metal chair, the seat rotted out, and I’m excited to get it planted up with lemon coral sedum and the semps. I’ve been collecting. I figure the lemon coral sedums will cascade over the edge of the container to hide that it doesn’t fit perfectly in the chair seat. For some reason the lemon coral sedums come back every year for me so I just pluck some out of the container they’re growing in and replant wherever I want them. Also I have random creeping Jenny I can dig out of my lawn and transplant wherever I want them. It’s kind of nice not having to buy spillers every year. 🌷💚🙃

  4. Yeah your bamboo, I think you mentioned it’s aureosulcata, should Re flush once it’s warm out while the new shoots are coming up. If the culms are green. Get those babies in the ground!!They spread less in shade. Rhizome pruning is pretty easy. I planted skip laurels a few years ago too and after a tough winter in WNY it looked like total DEATH, and I thought I’d have to replace it, but it reflushed & only died back like 6” If it were me, I’d definitely wait until the new growth comes out! What is your plan to keep Colby safe from Hawks and stuff, or is he gonna come in at night? My flaming torch ginger is budding too! Nice beefy shoots so far, should be a great season. My fruiting peaches are popping bud, which is SO nice! The Sabals seem to get frond damage before spear pull. I need to post a garden tour of my own.

  5. My tulips are now up about 1cm (1/2 in) and the daffs are up 2 1/2cm (about 1 inch). It's just so nice to see growth! I've managed to clean up my back & front yards and got the perennials and lawn fertilized. Planting has to wait until end of may since it is still way too cold for heat loving plants. I live in zone 5b in southern Ontario, Canada.

  6. Oh thank goodness the siren was only a test! 🌷💚🙃 I don’t think that I would be able to hear our siren if it went off. 🌷💚🙃

  7. Thank you Jeff, I hope you can get everything accomplished that you want to this spring in your garden. Stay safe, stay healthy, and I’ll see you next time. Oh I’m not going to have to amputate my leg! After 4 weeks of hobbling around it’s finally on the mend! Yay! 🌷💚🙃

  8. OMG, Petasites japonicus, I planted a plug late last year in a place I almost immediately regretted. When I noticed a couple of small leaves a bit ago, I assumed they were leftovers from last season that had gotten buried under stray tree leaves. Now the patch is filling out and the leaves are getting big. It's coming in strong enough, I'm debating taking a cutting and planting some in a better place. Some of my bananas have pushed a foot out of the mulch, fingers crossed the next few nights.

  9. Getting ready to move this weekend, but there's still planting and stuff to be done! Transplanting, and definitely not propagating, some Black Lace Elderberry. Speaking of I've got to go move them into the shed for the cool and humidity. Spring hath sprungeth! 😋

  10. Remember when extreme cold snaps used to be a rare event? Now it is like every other winter. I was just mentioning to Nina that our historical records are useless. 40 used to be about as cold as it should get, and that would be a one off down here but not that cold most winters. Two winters in a row now, and four of the last five, we have very nearly frozen here, just ten miles to the north they had a pretty strong frost this winter. Hurricanes hitting here directly were few and far between as well and, well, can't say that anymore either.

  11. A beautiful day and a beautiful voice, blessing us with greatness to keep us going for the week.

  12. Your yard is wiped clean this time. Is it just the removal of the neighbor's landscape that makes it look so bare? Of course, that gives you more work to do which in turn gives ME more viewing pleasure and Toby time! 🙂🙂I love watching you put the yard in order every year. I think this one is going to be a herculean effort on your part.

  13. Hey Jeff
This crazy Ohio weather 77 this afternoon was simply glorious. Then it stormed rained hard. I'm excited I want to plant all at once everything needs something. I found a perfect plant rack for all my plants and supplies. It's over 200 bucks just have to buy it once. 24x72x74 5shelves. Love to watch what you up to on Wednesday and Saturdays. You one of my favorites channels to watch. You a great teacher.

  14. Oh great seeing you Jeff, I have been hating our crazy weather here in Idaho, and so ready for spring, we have had a lot of snow more than I want this year. I am so ready for the snow to be gone and to have my green grass and be able to get my garden all planted up and have beautiful flowers and plants outside. I love bamboo, but don't think it will survive where I live. Thanks for the tour of your backyard and how good its starting to look, I hope that you have a blessed and beautiful rest of your week, sending love and hugs, bye! 🙃🤗🌷🌼🌻💚💜

  15. Yeah, some of the Euonymus down here even defoliated, but have since flushed back out with fresh leaves. Tough plants!
WOW! the Laurel hedge took such a bad hit! 🙁 So sorry to see that! 🙁
Sucks about the neighbors nuking the landscape, BUT! On the bright side – More sun right? AKA MORE SUN LOVING PLANTS!!!! Opportunity knocks! CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! LOL
Musella Lasiocapa BANANA HEDGE!!! (maybe?) Huge yellow blooms and lush foliage?
Don't feel too bad, this has been a garden reset for almost the entire continental US from that Christmas Cold. The amount of rip-outs down here is insane.
Im interested to see if the pharaohs mask comes back – didn't you leave it in the ground over the winter?
My elizabeth hedychium did NOT survive 🙁 Have you checked on the Gardnerianums? Mine are up with the raffilii's.

  16. Enjoyed getting to see early spring in your garden and futures thoughts and plans. I’d hate to see you cutback on the bananas but if you got some great plants to put on there would enjoy seeing them . For me I’m still trying to add bananas to my property when I bought it 3 years ago I had none. Also excited I got my first banana cannas in the ground this week looking forward to seeing them grow like yours.

  17. My Bamboo turned brown last summer with it was over 100F and I forgot to water it for a few days. I hooked it up to my drip 3 times a day for 15 minutes each and it came back. It did take quite a while to do so though.

  18. I love your ideas about privacy! I also place plants on my deck in exact positions for privacy. Unfortunately, I can't plant things yet as we will be moving in the next year, so I won't plant anything. But I can't wait to begin that process and create my own tropical paradise
