Though the cells are small you can seed start in egg cartons. Many will tell you it isn’t advisable to start in egg cartons and I agree when it comes to the cardboard ones. They dry out too fast.
But when your eggs come in plastic cartons then they make great little seed starting trays but there is a catch! I share all in this video.
I have been starting so many seeds that I ran out of my little pots and recycled containers. That’s what happens when it keeps snowing instead of sunshine!

I have been using styrofoam egg cartons and had great success. They make the perfect little plugs. I even used a cardboard egg carton and had great results, but it needed more watering. This may be the way I start most of my seeds for next year. I agree with you about using a potting mix instead of a seed starting. I went to a potting mix a few years ago just to save on cost and saw no difference and I press my potting mix down also. I will never buy seed starting mix again. Thanks for the great video
I heard you say that you rinse away the soil when you are going to plant the little seedlings? I have never done the larger water jugs but I did this year and I was wondering if that is the process for those seedlings too?
