Front Yard Garden

Preparing For Spring Lawn Seeding + Pre Emergent + Liquid Fertilizer Application

It’s inching closer and closer to spring seeding time and since I don’t have a front yard at the moment, there’s a lot of work to do! In this video I also apply some pre emergent and get a quick liquid fertilizer application down on the low cut test plots.

  2. Hi Ryan – have you rented a rock bucket attachment for your skid steer? Something to consider before irrigation and seeding

  3. Its not to early for the Prodiamine? Dont you want soil temps to be about 50-60 before you start worrying about that?

  4. Ryan, make sure you drain the downspout at least 20 ft away from your foundation. Great work and loving the updates!

  5. Ryan, it would be much easier to install a drywell for the runoff from your roof leader! Property is looking good!!

  6. How do you measure how much N you are putting down with the 16 4 8 you used? How often do you do that?

  7. Looking forward to seeing the front yard done! Also looking forward to the sprinkler system install, take care and don't work too hard! Hope to see you guys at Paul & Emily's in a couple weeks?

  8. I really hope I’m not too late on pre-emergent for my lawn, it’s been a week or two of 40-50 degree days, it rained two days. I was going to aim to doing it last week but didn’t do it. A lot of grown is starting and I can only hope I didn’t miss, I’m aiming on applying pre-emergent Tuesday because it’s raining Wednesday

  9. We live in the same zone and I binged your videos late fall in preparation for my first year with a lawn. Aerated and seeded heavy early Nov for an attempted dormant seeding. Fingers crossed some seed made it!

  10. What kind of grass are you seeding around your house? Your elite PRG blend? I can't wait to see you reel mowing it with the Swardman again!

  11. Still haven’t turned the water back on. Temps from 70 one afternoon to high 20s at night in NEw England. Turf still 41 temp Maybe next week?

  12. would love to see you do a wildflower area im going to try this fall around the garden. keep up the good work.

  13. Do you have any down jackets? Comfy, light, and warmer than multiple cotton layers. Just make sure it's 800 or higher down fill rating

  14. Can’t wait to follow the journey. Hey Ryan quick question for you. I didn’t dethatch my backyard last fall. I applied my first app of pre emergent already a couple of weeks ago. I see thatch that can be removed. If I dethatch, am I breaking my pre emergent barrier?

  15. Can’t wait to follow the journey. Hey Ryan quick question for you. I didn’t dethatch my backyard last fall. I applied my first app of pre emergent already a couple of weeks ago. I see thatch that can be removed. If I dethatch, am I breaking my pre emergent barrier?

  16. Local soil delivery here in NJ isn't starting until mid April. It's going to be cutting it close for some minor leveling touch ups and overseeding I need to do in the backyard. We have such a narrow window in NJ if you aren't covering the seed up with anything other than peat moss. Need to be ready for spring seeding by May 1st at latest.

  17. May want to consider installing a solar powered fan in the shipping container for the summer to keep the air moving.

  18. All you guy's talk about is the cold, soil temps, yield, we get hot 40 + C no rain, but….. Miles and Miles and Miles of land, one bit will get wet but another won't. West Aussie fella. just sayin.

  19. Hey Ryan – Do you reccocemnd core aerating in the spring ? I Finished a foundation drainage project last year and would like to thatch, core aerate, and thatch again and seed the yard that was disrupted. Thoughts ?

  20. Ryan, Thanks for the information regarding pre-emergents. I'm in upstate New York and, when all the snow melted, I saw that I have moss everywhere in my lawn. Last year I noticed a small amount but this year it has spread dramatically. Do you have any suggestions for killing it? Thank you.

  21. Can’t wait! Just got my seed in the mail, and some good simple lawn 😉 can’t wait for spring to really arrive!!!

  22. Really informative.

Question – we typically see a lot of dandelions in our area in WI. Do you typically deal with those via a different pre emergent, or after they’ve grown?

  23. Help! Total lawn Reno 18 months ago with your instruction, but it’s obvious now my Elite Perennial Ryegrass isn’t living well in shadier areas. What can I mix with it for these areas? I just purchased another 25 pounds of sissy grass seed and thinking I should have done a lawn inspection first. Seattle.😊

  24. What’s the best thing to put on top of seed after it’s been put down? Peat moss or just light topsoil?

  25. Just starting our lawn in Michigan. Came across your channel when trying to learn as much as I can. Wow! Best law care channel I’ve seen! Love all of your videos. Very easy to watch and informative. Making my way through all of them.

Question. What are the grass plots for?
