How to grow a tomato plant for tons of tomatoes

  1. I don't know HOW you keep track of everything. It's amazing how many plants you already have growing outside. And then you're starting hundreds more indoors. Yet, you KNOW where they are all located. Even if I wrote what the plant/seedling is on label, I would still have to hunt around and read all of the labels to find the plant I wanted. You, on the other hand, know each one. Just like they are your children. I bet that Ms Kitty would be so jealous of your "green kids" if you didn't bribe her with broccoli. Ha I LOVE that precious bowwowbaby!

  2. Really informative. But… those plastic containers will live on for a thousand years in our landfills. Obviously you are a land lover. Protect our land and ditch the plastic bag , re d cups and shoe boxes. Please.

  3. I love your creativity! I would not have thought to put the tape on the lid and container. If I start seeds in a clear container that has a gray lid and put it outside on my covered porch, should I put the lid on it? The end of the porch that I would put it on gets about 5 hours of morning sun. Thank you for another awesome and helpful video!

  4. I see your hummingbirds .. We had 1 come back so far and put the water out for her .. Do you ever grow loofa ? Would love you to do a video on them ..I finally got some seeds from a lady in Florida .. I’m in NC .. Not sure when to plant them

  5. Good ideas. This year, I used old cake pans and rusted cookie sheets and put seed packs on them. Put some down in plastic meat trays and plastic drawers from organizers our seed trays were breaking apart and leaking so we used that. Happy gardening to all.

  6. I think I am starting to get info overload. I have too many gardeners saying what's best for them but they have really nice beds and growing rooms and heat mats and they use vermiculite and bone meal and blah blah blah. I just want simple ideas and then hope for the best. I really like your ideas on gardening and enjoy 6ou and kitty with your videos. Thank you again sorry for the long comment

  7. Robbie, you share the best tips and ideas to make planting doable. Because of you, I might actually try planting some things from seeds this year! Best of all, I can use containers and other items I already have in my home.

  8. Wow the aluminium foil trick is fantastic. After my mum passed I found about 10 rolls of foil. My sister and I shared them out but I still have heap’s because it’s not something I like to use. This is great and you can keep and reuse each year

  9. You are just a genius 👍
I started some peppers and flowers today, but for the next batch I will try the tulle!
Hung my first hummingbird feeder, they should be around soon!
    Pansies are tricky!!!

  10. Thank you for sharing all these great ideas. Because of you, I did my first vegetable garden in containers last year. I really enjoyed it, and this year I'll be planting garden beds. You make it so easy and fun and I am grateful for the confidence I gained by watching your videos! Thank you!! 😍🥰

  11. I was chatting on a live for a gardening channel I follow . Someone mentioned container gardening and how hard it is to get enough soil to grow anything. I told them Check out this channel because you think way outside of the box . I also let them know I use some of your methods in my gardening , especially in starting raised beds .

  12. my plants need collars to keep them from getting stem rot from overwatering. any ideas on what to use to make plastic collars?

  13. Thanks to you I have too many seeds growing now. I kept trying what you said and it worked. Now I'm searching for more pots, tubs, and anything I can put a plant in.

  14. The trick to making holes on the bottom of the small paper Dixie cups? stack 10 of them turn them upside down, sharpen a wooden chopstick with a razor knife and puncture them, becareful though.

  15. Growing from seeds indoors….this is how I have experienced:

I did every step right and diligently. Yet, the results were mediocre. Poor germination rate, leggy seedlings, seedling died for no reason, you name it.

When I did not have much hope just threw seeds outdoors. They all came out (90-100% germination rate) and were healthy seedling.

Is Mother Nature playing tricks with me?

  16. My plants are ready to go outdoors! I've got all sorts of greenery popping up…a few are mysteries & like you, some are not growing at all. I saved seeds from my Purple Majestic Pansy last season. Using the paper towel method, I took 8 of the largest seeds. All germinated, but only 3 are growing well. I threw them in w/the Mother plant which I'd cut back all the dead matter from. I did get out to TS earlier today & was amazed they had a few varieties of Pansy in hanging baskets. I couldn't resist the colors…so I got 2 for a total of 6 different colors. As soon as our weather quits going from 90F yesterday to 57F today…I think I can give them a few hours each week {at minimum} of fresh air & true sun. They loved this past wknd. outside, so did the dogs & I.

  17. This is my #1 channel for learning how to grow out of anything and for little to no money! After a rough two years of little to no harvests here in SC..Today I sowed some veggie and flower seeds..Kale, Cilantro,Spinach,Bush Beans,Turnips,Chili Peppers,Lettuce,Blue Buttons,Pansies and Lavander.I'm trying out the Dollar Tree stackable planter🤞🤞..My raised bed seedlings are not doing well..Im not sure what the issue is..They are all leggy and stunting in growth.

  18. Pansies germinate in the dark like inside a black garbage bag.
I planted an indeterminate tomato in a container, and it's amazing how much it's grown in almost a month and with clusters of tomatoes too. It's about to outgrow the trellis, maybe the container too (full of roots). I really don't want to cut it back. I don't know if it will continue to produce if I do cut it back.
It'll be too hot for tomatoes after after May or June, so it doesn't make sense to start another one now.

  19. I started seeds with paper towels. Forgot about the seed roots intertwining with the paper towels. Sometimes the seeds are too close together. I couldn't lift the seedling without breaking off the root that grew through the paper towel. So i decided to plant the whole paper towel . And decided when they got strong enough for me to space them out. Some worked and some didn't. Learned that the seeds need a be spaced out on the towel…then i can cut/tear each seedling and plant where it has space to grow.. ANY IDEAS

  20. Thank you for sharing! I love all these ideas! Especially the foil trick for limited light coming into the house! I love to repurpose too so all of the container ideas are great. Oh that tulle idea is genius too! 🌱

  21. Robbie, I LOVE watching ther many ideas you share mostly because you repurpose common household items….keeping them out of the landfills longer. Also thanks to you I've found cheaper ways of accomplishing things. I now own a bolt of tulle, a bag of clay kitty litter(no cat), and great solar fountains! Thank you for VALUABLE , useful, ingenious information

  22. The tinfoil around the plants really worked great idea for getting a little extra light for my window seal seedlings. Always great tips and tricks from both you and Gary thanks for making gardening easy and fun.

  23. I have been trying to grow a container garden for the past two years. I’ve been trying several different gurus with little or no success. I find whenever I use your suggestions they work. I now use tulle to keep birds and bugs out. I compost like mad. I grow things together and use water from one plant to another. I am doing one thing different. My daughter’s boyfriend discovered I was having trouble bending over to dig as I am 89 and had both hips replaced and one knee so far. He got several used pallets and built me a huge low platform which holds 15 18 gallon totes off the ground and a smaller platform for another 10 totes. The totes are now waist high and I love working out in my garden.

  24. Robbie thank so much for all of you tips over the years not only do they work, they have saved me time & money. 😊
