Here we show you how to properly prune a Japanese Maple. The key is not to take out more than 1/3 of pruning as it can stress the tree out.
We want to remove the 3 D’s
Diseased
Damaged
Dead
Also crossing branches to prevent growing into one another and obstructing future growth.
We also should open up the middle canopy to allow good air flow to prevent diseases from establishing and light penetration.
Always prune and disinfect your pruners before with a 1:10 bleach or alcohol to water solution.
