Front Yard Garden

Adding a path and flower bed to our garden

Gardens are living breathing things which need attention, so don’t be afraid to change your mind about your garden design. It doesn’t have to be massive landscaping jobs, it can just be the odd plant move or bed extension but changes can help you love your garden more, get better use of it and of course help the plants to flourish.

We had our hand forced a little recently, with a tree on its last legs, we know we will have to take it out and possibly replace it, so that got us thinking about what this would mean.

We’ve only made small changes, but they’ve had a huge difference for us.

You can also hear more about the tree on Episode 8 of this year’s Beechgrove garden, and hear the advice Carol gave me about taking it down and using the trunk to make a keepsake: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000jv7x/beechgrove-2020-episode-8

  1. Path looks great!

I have this horrible leggy rose bush that was in my garden when i moved to my house.. i'm plannning to dig up (it has black spot too 😑) …i really dont like it.

Once i pull it up i am excited to replace it with a climbing rose that i will love in spring. I have the whole of autumn to plan which rose i will use 😄

  2. Totally agree with your point that we should all feel free to change up things in the garden! Love the changes you've made – that extra bit of space in the flowerbed and the new path to the greenhouse makes all the difference! Thanks for another awesome video!

  3. Jim is okay!!!! So cool to see you doing a timelapse of the work. Love the message of this video too.

  4. Hi you have a big garden you need some fruit trees. The way you have layed out your garden is amazing.

  5. Loving the new path and extended bed. Great to see you reusing the old patio for a walkway between your raised beds 👍
