Japanese Garden

Setting Up NATURAL FILTERLESS GOLDFISH POND Pt.1

Having an above ground goldfish pond was nice but it’s hard to make it look natural and fit in with the green garden especially that my pond container/tub is blue. I thought of building a wood frame for it in the past but the cons outweighed the pros so I avoided doing it. This time, I’m digging a hole in the ground to make this an in-ground pond and hopefully, it’ll look more aesthetically pleasing than before.

  1. This pond is going to look epic once we start adding some aquatic and terrestrial plants!
2 things I want to mention!!
First, be sure to get permission to dig a hole if itโ€™s not your yard ๐Ÿ˜…
Second, I just wanted to apologise for wind noise, so sorry ๐Ÿ™

  2. You are right about the blue color. But you are also right not to stirre up to much. I would maybe linne the inside of the walls of the tub with a 1 cm rough filtermat. And that will also be a great place for benefic bacterie and alge. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. I love watching all your videos but sometimes i get nauseous from the camera shake. Please invest in a gimbal Ryo.

  4. Looking sweet!
Your hard work is paying off. I don't have a garden which is another reason I want to get an aquarium! lol

Yes the plant is a Christmas rose or hellebore (Helleborus niger)
I love Hellebores and not surprised that you want to keep it.

  5. The plant that you called Christmas Rose is called Linton Rose is the US. The botanical name is Helleborus orientalis.

  6. if would be good if you put like black tarp in it instead of the tub and put rocks around it, that will look like a real pond

  7. It already looks much better! I canโ€™t wait to see the finished look

  8. You will feel a sense of acomplishment when you have finished your garden. Suggestion invest in a pick axe for the hard dirt or clay it will make life easier.

  9. I have a similar sized tub back at home and its moss green. Been wanting to turn into a pond for a while now. Can't wait for part 2 and the finished product. Will try to copy yours. Thanks!

  10. Maybe get a black stock tank and put that in the ground and get rid of the blue one or use it to grow plants on the roof where you grew all the other ones

  11. I use slightly larger rounded river pebbles/rock in my tub pond with my Fancy Goldfish in it. You could always fo a layer of gravel (for beneficial bacteria) on the bottom and then a layer of rounded river pebbles that are too big to fit in their mouths on top of that. My tub pond is no filter too. I've got a Fancy Goldfish, Albino Dojo Loach, Gold White Clouds, Blue Danios, and Turquoise Danios in it. I add in Guppies to breed during the summer and take the Guppies out in the Fall. The rest stay in year round. I live in California, so our winters are mild enough for the cool water fish to be out all year.

  12. That Christmas Rose is called a Hellebore. There are lots of different kinds and they are a really neat plant.

  13. Looking good! If you have room a small park like bench would be a nice addition to the setting.

  14. ty… I have a low spot… And this might be a perfect idea… It fills up with water but there is always a constant spot where it is low wouldn't it be nice to be that way on purpose..
