  1. How do you prune oakleaf hydrangeas? I’m getting very confused about old/new wood etc. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you

  2. This was very helpful. My wife’s grandmother has had one on the side of her house for over 25 years she says. Then she said she didn’t know how to prune it. Thank you

  3. thanks for this upload my hydrangeas didn't flower until a few weeks ago and I was going to chop it down pretty far the other day I'll wait till I see green on it in the late winter like you said, again thank you!

  4. He says be bold and if we cut too much it’ll grow back. Ya that may be true however if you cut off too much, you will not get any flowers or very little flowers for years. So no, you technically don’t want to be “ bold”

  5. my neighbour has just done her hip in – so im going to prune her garden before she comes back from hospital to cheer her up. thanks for this excellent video!!

  6. Ive been confused as to how to prune hydrangeas, your video was easy to understand with your clear instruction. On my way out to prune! Wish me luck 🙂

  7. I took some Hydrangea cuttings in October 2017. I have three of them today together on the top of my channel homepage.

  8. Your video is the best. Easy to understand and you gave thorough information. I have watched many videos and you gave details that others did not . Thank you!!!!!!

  9. Great video. I don't think I cut mine far enough a few months ago 😥😭😭 I saw the leaf buds starting then we had a random cold night and it killed the top ones 😭 Then I pruned them to where the dead looking buds were and I think I should of went further down because I'm not seeing any flowers developing and my other hydrangea (different breed) has some starting. So depressing it's literally my favorite thing every summer to see them bloom 😭🥺😭

  10. Thank you SO much for referring to a season instead of a month. I get frustrated at gardeners on here saying things like "What to plant in July" when this is the coldest month in the southern hemisphere.
So, "late winter" was very helpful. Thank you

  11. Hi! This is an amazing video, thank so much. Your advice is consistent to some I'd seen a while ago, but recently Facebook groups have been telling me to prune at the end of summer or early fall, and I'm confused. Any idea where this is coming from? I think I'll wait until late winter, but they're so adamant in late summer that I'm second guessing myself.

    Thanks again!

  12. Your Hydrangea looks just like mine in Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 so this is great advice as we are almost into spring and I better get pruning 🙏

  13. Cool video. Big hydrangea fan. Need to get myself a better pair of sheers. Also good reminder on those angle cuts when pruning.

  14. Iv got my hydrangeas in tall wide pots is this OK??.. they look beautiful but wondering if lm stunting their growth ? . Thanks 🌺🌺🌺

  15. New to gardening and found Garden Ninjas lesson on pruning hydrangeas full of information, clear and concise. No waffling. Now I can get on with my day!! Thanks

  16. Just pruned mine and then I realised I am supposed to know when to prune it. It’s mid January so it will hopefully be fine 😅

  17. Thank you soooo much for sharing your videos in laymans terms

  18. Thank you, Lee, for this great tutorial. I've moved into a new house and the previous couple had lived here for 50 years, working on their garden. I think about it like I have inherited something that needs to be preserved, so I'm trying my best to improve my skills. I'm a bit late for the hydrangea (not February!), but it looks much like yours does in this video – same amount of new growth in late March
