Adding Shrubs with Bold Colors to the Berm | Gardening with Creekside

I am adding beautiful shrubs with bold colors to the berm that will bring us massive color during the growing season. Within this selection of shrubs, we have native plants, deer-resistant plants, and plants that support our pollinator population. It is going to be fun to watch this space develop in the coming weeks, months, and years!

  1. Love all the beautiful plants. I have a question not about plants though…..what brand of boots are those? They look like a real find. I’m in Tennessee and have a creek, pond, and lots of streams and boulders on my property….so I deal with the wet ground and snakes. Looking for some good gardening boots to replace my Keds!

  2. Jenny, where did you get your Hori Hori knife? Your property is beautiful. Thanks

  3. Hi Jenny and Jerry, last April me and my family (black) visited your nursery and I purchased a Michael Carr strawberry pot saying all this hoping you will remember us. But the point is that Jerry took me to the place where the hosta that you had in the refrigerator cause I wanted one to put in a bath tub. That plant was so small about 3 leaves was peeking through the soil, well it stayed that way the whole summer, which was uncharacteristic of a hosta, well this year it came back with bigger leaves and I am so excited. So to everyone shopping with you guys don’t give up on creekside plants they have the best plants and I can’t wait for them to start shipping we drove up from Georgia. Jenny I don’t miss an episode on YouTube. Thanks for all your good information.

  4. I would suggest some "tea olive" shrubs (my mom called them "tea ollies")–small delicate flower clusters that smell divine. There are some at the USC campus near the library that had grown to 15+ feet after 20yrs, and when in bloom the smell would float across the campus. I love them and it's sad to see they aren't used much anymore.

  5. I live in zone 6a and I have the beyond pick (not the proven winners one) and ot says good to zone 5. I haven't seen any new growth on it and the stems are all dried so I dug it up but noticed white roots so I put it back. I really hope it comes back, it was beautiful even during the winter.

  6. I thought I lost my lorepedulums too from the arctic blast, we live in Western NC, but they are came back! but I did lose 2 beautiful butterfly bushes this year. Part of gardening, nature is in charge.

  7. I've been unsuccessfully trying to find old videos where you mention the hori hori knife you use. Can you tell me the brand please.

  8. I have some loropetalum that have been in the ground for years and they got hit hard too by the cold. Others laughed it off. I gave them a hard prune and I’m waiting to see if they bounce back. If not, I’m already thinking of their replacements so they better hurry up!

  9. I’ve been wanting to plant some hibiscus but I’ve read that they attract Japanese beetles. Do you have a problem with them?

  10. A favorite area of your garden, those orange rockets are Spectacular 🧡 but not a fan of the rice hulls but I get it 🌱
