It can be tough to find shrubs that are suited for shade. In this video I hope to give you some ideas and inspiration on several varieties of shrubs that can thrive in those conditions. In my recommendations I’ve included shrubs that are evergreen, deciduous, and blooming to give you a solid mix.
Hi!
My name is Justin and I have my managed my family’s business (S&K Greenhouse) for the last 10 years! It is a local garden center in Shelby, NC that my mom and dad started around 25 years ago.
We have a strong desire to discuss and teach gardening to the online community and welcome anyone who wants to learn. Though we have been involved in the plant world for decades we have found that there is always something to learn when it comes to gardening.
Whether you are a master gardener or just starting out this channel is for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos!

Hey Justin I need a fast growing plant to lightly screen (doesn’t have to be thick) from 3’ high to 5’ high. What would you suggest? I know it’s a wierd question but I accidentally removed the privacy From 3’-5’ when limbing up my 30’ Leyland Cyprus.

I only have a very small area to plant shrubs, and it’s shaded most of the time. Would you recommend one of these over another for a small area. The area is only about 2.5 to 3 feet deep (front to back)
Great job!
I live in central florida with a north facing house. 4' out from the front of the house NEVER gets direct sun due to the overhang of the roof. Will Illicium grow in this constant shade? if not, then what will?
Love your channel-
I have a large filtered light woodland garden I’m developing. I would love to see your take on woodland garden design. Shade loving accent trees, shrubs, flowering plants.
