  1. Your yard is so pretty Andrea! Especially when the foxgloves are in bloom, they are so English cottage to me, and I’ve loved having them in our yard too. I hope you get some sunshine soon! My parents live in NW Ohio, very near to Michigan, and my mom has been so disappointed that it’s been snowing this past week!

  2. I have used your tips to landscape my front yard with stone. I love it. I'm currently in the process of shoveling rocks and putting them in my backyard.

  3. Yes… it is easy watching bloggers who get gifted so many items for free, when you can't afford it. But, free rocks is just a happy circumstance, and you are very fortunate. It all looks so cozy cottage . I love it all. Plus I just love the high pitch on your roof line. Its the charm factor!

  4. Love all these tips!! Does the pea gravel get in your grass? That’s the only worry I have about pea gravel.

  5. I'm am so glad that I found this video! Thank you for sharing. I have been wanting to make a pea gravel patio for a while now but I didn't really know how to even get started. I will keep your ideas in mind. I really love your yard, it looks beautiful. BTW I also love your necklace. Can you tell me where you got it?

  6. Start right now rooting some hydrangeas from yours. By fall you will have some to plant.

  7. All great ideas! I never thought to check Facebook marketplace. Thanks. Love the look of your property.

  8. Hydrangeas are very easy to grow from cuttings and in 2 years you could have a full fence hedge. Cheap and beautiful!

  9. Thank you! I do have a couple of paths with river rock I was able to get from my brother, I don't have a truck but I took my little Mini Cooper and 3 big buckets and hauled all of them to create a border around my woodland garden (yes I made at least 5 trips) but so worth it. Once my sister in law saw pictures of my work she decided to keep the rest of the rock for a path in her yard ha! it looks great .

Secondly, I hired a landscaper to lay out another border with river rock in places where the grass was damaged by raccoons and it looks fabulous!!! Now to add flagstone to a round
small bed surrounding a Japanese maple, I have flagstone there already but erosion happened and so it needs a bit more to "tidy" it up.

I may have to do this myself and it's ok, I learn to move the rock a little at at time, no rush!

Your yard and home are fabulous, God bless you and your family! Cheers

  10. When we were younger, much younger. A nursing home close by was building and there were lots of rocks in the soil so we got permission to collect them and used as edging. It was a family affair. In the evenings we would go rock collecting. Never know what opportunities might come your way.

  11. We've been going to Lowes and getting their broken or chipped paver stones for FREE! They have a stack of them that they give away. You just have to ask. I don't mind chipped or broken ones because I plan on planting moss between them so this will hide most of the broken edges. Plus I kind of like them that way because it gives the elusion of age.

  12. We live in western Washington and get a lot of rain, we put white rocks in our flower beds and it was beautiful the first year. But with all the rain it turned green! So we ended up taking it all out, it was sad. We have a short rock wall in our backyard and I love it but then again it’s green with moss. So you’re lucky. Love your yard

  13. Check at the gravel pits near you. Our local one gave us buckets of pea gravel for free to make our garden path.

  14. One year my husband asked what I'd like for my birthday and I said I wanted some rocks for the garden. I have about 15, I think they are called lava rock, large stones with holes and indentations in them. A couple of questions: Do you whipper-snip around the rocks as the grass grows up around them? Also, how do you deal with fallen leaves in the pea gravel on paths and the patio? Surely if you rake the leaves it also rakes the stone.

  15. Im right there with you Andrea. I love stones and rocks. I have many throughout my gardens. Im finishing a border now with rocks outside that is nicely coming together.
Your yard has always been so charming and has great eye appeal. Nice work you and your hubby do. ❤😊

  16. Subscribe to your local garden groups. I have always gotten free plants and rocks by being in them.

  17. Growing up we got stone for the rock walls in the gardens of our acreage from farmers. My mom would just go up to a farm property and ask the people who lived there if they had any stones. Just like your example there was always a huge pile of rocks the farmer did not want. My mom and dad also built a stone fireplace with rocks from a farm!! I myself have gotten patio pavers and sidewalk blocks from a house in our area that was being demolished. I asked the new owners if I could take some pavers and they told me to take whatever I wanted. Plants included! I also got patio pavers from facebook marketplace in the ‘free’ section. Like you I borrowed a truck from my brother and worked like crazy to get things home and in place. Hard work! But worth it! Susan🇨🇦

  18. We shoveled lava rocks from a freebie, to landscape around our fence. It looked great. But in time the leaves and dirt settled into the landscape fabric through the rocks and we had unwanted growth in the rocks. Something to consider. Yours looks AMAZING ❤

  19. Thanks for the ideas. I’d like things people can do without the assistance of others . So many people don’t want to help. They like competing.

  20. These ideas are only low cost if someone is giving materials away . Otherwise they are not cheap .

  21. YOU CAN START YOUR OWN HYDRANGAS BY COVERING A BRANCH WITH A SHOVEL FULL OF DIRT LEAVING THIE TIP UNCOVERED. WHERE THE BRANCH IS COVERED BY DIRT IT WILL ROOT AND BECOME A NEW PLANT. DO IT NOW. IT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO ROOT. JUST CUT BEHIND THE DIRT RELEASING IT FROM THE MOTHER PLANT NEXT SPRING . DIG AND PLANT. DO IT NOW AND NEXT SPRING YOU WILL HAVE A NEW PLANT FOR FREE.

  22. Love..love..love the style of your home…that front door ❤…the stone ❤ and all your plants ❤

  23. I'm sorry but was she talking. I just couldn't get focused with that beauty front and center

  24. I loved this video. Thanks for sharing these ideas. Your yard is gorgeous! Your channel and blog brings me so much joy!

  25. Thank you for the ideas. I was thinking of using rock for my front flower bed. Also thank you for the idea to ask on Facebook. That put a spark in my head. Lol

  26. Love your landscaping with all the stone. I was fortunate to have a coworker offer me some flat stone that was just laying in piles out in the woods of her new home. I used it as stepping stones up to my shed. Also, found a place that cuts colored glass into small pieces to use for landscaping. It looks nice in my flower garden.

  27. A storybook cottage. You are such a beautiful person. Please block that rude and jealous person commenting with ugly and snide comments! There is no reason for that! We took out our rotting landscape timbers and put in rocks. It looks so much better. They will last forever and were free. ❤ Tyfs. HUGS 🙏🌼🙏🌷🙏🌹

  28. Let me add another suggestion: if you are on the other end, and trying to get rid of stones, mention it often to all your friends. I was able to get rid of some small boulders I didn't want simply by mentioning it at my knitting group. Great video! Do not be embarrased by being blessed. We are all blessed in different ways.😇💫

  29. We have a house on the lake with some natural small stones. Now that our family is growing and we have grandchildren, I am creating a family nest out of woven wire and everyone will write their name on a rock and put it in the nest.

  30. Great ideas. Love the pea gravel patio. I was searching for what to do with rather pointless space next to our rather boring concrete patio and adding a pea gravel patio with a stone border would be perfect. I love rocks too!
