Starting Truck Camping in 4×4 TOYOTA TACOMA (full tour)

A question we get asked all the time is: what happens after Cabin Life?! When we first started our journey in the woods, even coming by the basic necessities for survival seemed daunting! But as we build our cabin up and become more comfortable in our environment, we’re always thinking: what’s the next challenge? Well today we flew all the way across the country to see if we could live in a Toyota Tacoma truck camper! We were inspired by @mav and wanted to see what it was like first-hand. The Tacoma is 4-wheel-drive with offroad tires and a winch, so it can handle just about anything the road throws at us, except for one thing: GATES! The road to our first destination was closed, so we had to improvise and we took the camper out into the desert! We haven’t been able to sit outside in so long that we almost forgot what it was like. After building a small pit fire, we spent our first night watching the moon come up, cooking a pasta dinner with a sauce we can’t pronounce, and spending a quiet night together away from cell phones and Internet. It was absolutely magical. The camper itself was so easy and intuitive to use, and the bed was massive, probably bigger than the bed in our cabin! A king bed fit for two queens! 😊 We give a full rundown of the camper in this video. What do you think? Is it time for Vanwives to become Truckwives?! Do you have experience with campers? Comment below!

Special thanks to Dan from https://www.fourwheelcampers.com/ for the amazing experience, please give them some love!

Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we’re so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. Thank you for being here with us for cabin life, van life and all the in between!

  1. Truckwives? 👀💛 This reignited so much of our love to adventure and the open road. Let us know what you love about truck life and what your favourite parts are? Still drooling over those exterior accessories 🤤 but there’s nothing like being home with Bella and Izzy xx

Update: for those concerned we love our cabin and we are never selling or leaving 💛

  2. I'm all set with truck camping. I wouldn't mind having 4WD in my van but I can do without. I love the space we have in Usul (the name of our van). And there's a lot to be said for being able to stand up and walk around in our van. I'm 6 ft. Tall and don't like hunching over. Plus the idea of not having a toilet I think would be too much for Adi.

  3. Pretty cozy with 2 dogs. Have you looked at the flatbed models for the full size trucks? Quite a bit more storage, with a little more living space, too.
Take the back seat out of the truck and build a platform for the dogs to ride the same height as the rest of the family, and that gives you more storage under.

  4. You guys definitely need to explore while you’re young! The cabin will always be there! ❤

  5. SOOO good to see you on the road again!
PLEASE DM me if you ever get to the point of sellling your Sprinter…maybe even for a truck!

  6. I LOOOOVE that "your home now" song and your editing. Love you girls so much. Feeling the vibes ❤

  7. Beautiful camping spot but at this point in my life I would need more indoor space and an indoor bathroom…but it was a nice truck!

  8. It's been a long time since I have commented on your guys videos a lot has changed in my life. Watching the two of you how much you love each other made me think about my own life I was in a love less marriage for years and was just alive not living and I'm still to young to live that way so I decided to leave after 25 years of being with the same woman. Since then I have found a woman that is my soul mate and haven't been this happy since my son was born ten years ago. It wasn't all you guys that made my decision but it was part of it thank you.

  9. Dope. Do it. Been wanting to trade my Jeep for a Taco, & sell my TT…maybe I want a truck camper now. 💫🐾💫

  10. I think that you are going to find the truck camper fun for a short while but the van life is extremely more comfortable for the four of you. I dont like the idea of extreme off roading. Too isolated, highly dangerous and will be very uncomfortable after a short time. The girls are likely to hurt themselves trying to get in and out and to be able to get up to your bed is also a danger for them. And with the world in the state that it is in, you would risk getting brokedown in a place where you could not easily get any help for the truck, yourselves and the girls. Or worse your truck could get visited by very bad people because it would be something that they want. Right now the world is a very scary place and the people in it are very, very mean. I realize that you probably won't like my answer, but please pay attention to the news and find out what all is going on in the world before you risk yourselves and the girls. By no means would this be as homie and comfortable as your van

  11. Please be transparent about the cost. Fuel is expensive, the refrigerator is small meaning there is a interval of restocking the fridge, and the need to plan ahead to refuel and restock. How much dry goods can be stored. How much clothing is being hauled and how is the weight distribution and ride?

  12. This warmed my heart so much and made be so excited for when we move into our van next week. This gave me chills, cannot wait for this freedom

  13. Except mosquitos aren't attracted to light they are attracted to CO2 which is why they come get you in the dark too.

  14. Brought happy tears for me seeing your fur babies Bella and Izzy so happy and talking to there mommies.

  15. We use to camp every weekend. Then we moved to the woods. Never needed to camp agaian ,now im retired and to old To camp, but at least we still live in the woods.

  16. I mean… you're right in the forest in the wilderness at the cabin! It's nice to get away and do some off-road camping, as an adventure here and there, but the van is so comfy, and cabin life is just getting warmed up. But I also say that as a person who loves her cabin and her creature comforts, haha!

  17. You can see the peace of resetting on y’all’s faces. So happy for you. Such a great feeling.

  18. There's a guy in Alaska that has an F-350 with a flatbed and a little cabin he built on it. Maybe something you could build on your pickup. I've said you need a trailer! That'd give you room for the camper. Otherwise, you could buy one.

  19. You keep saying, after cabin life, are you quitting cabin life? We all enjoy how you are living off grid. The Mexico thing is overdone by everyone.

  20. Great vlog you two. The truck camper looks great and it looked like Crystal is all in on it. I personally would love it

  21. First time commentor…another channel I follow called Ambition Strikes did just that. Built there very own truck camper and traveled with their 2 dogs. Look them up and who knows?
