Well I join you in your frustration because today my sunflowers in my garden have completely gone, bamboo and string remains but no sunflowers! I also have a major mole problem in my garden and absolutely everything I plant gets pushed straight back out !
My sunflowers are being targeted 😫
Same thing just happened to me with Swede and carrot, went to the allotment with the intention of thinning out the swedes because i'd sown a few too many seeds, but the slugs had beat me to it, starting some more in the greenhouse, while i try and slugproof it
Nate who has the channel "Garden Like A Viking" recently made a video showing an organic solution for slugs and other soft bodied garden pests using garlic (more specifically the allicin contained in the garlic). I don't know if it works and there is a danger of killing earthworms as well but it might be worth a look. Sorry this happened to you, I know what it feels like. 🙁
Aargh! Gggrrrr! Kill and attack, Rocky 😤

Video for ultimate slug protection
Emma, I have had the exact same problems with slugs & snails, I think I will try whacking in stuff like you do, great thinking.
hi emma i use salt around the raised beds and place on weeds that kills them off use strulch on beds that deters slugs
Remember, shouldnt plant sunflowers with other plants emma..
Sorry Emma I’m not as forgiving as you and my slugs and snails are not going to live hope word reaches their mates
Hi Emma, myself and a fellow allotmenteer have found sawdust to be very very effective against slugs! We have got this from a local carpenter who makes doors and windows. Give this a try. Vic
I'm getting the same problem Emma, put my Calendula seedlings out and the slugs have devoured them, it makes ye so peed off. I read to put cat litter around the seedlings i did this didn't make a difference so maybe i'l try coffee grounds 🤷♀️
Rockys adorable hes very unusual ❤
I use containers now but I am gonna try Nemaslug – its expensive but it does feel like I need a bit of revenge! I know it's nature but….. soooo annoying
I feel your pain. I use the wood plank trick and go out at night to lift the slugs and snails so they can’t munch.
I think the reason you have slugs is because you get frequent rain and clouds and the top of the soil is perpetually damp. If only you could keep the top half inch of soil bone dry. Have you ever seen a slug
Crawling over top of dry soil. ? And you added more water when replanting. Try to keep your moisture down this time of year. I hope this helps.
Snails love sunflowers, sorry to say i have given up growing veggies
I know I shouldn’t laugh because I know how awful it is to lose your vegetables. But the snails 🐌 🤣 literally having a Tom cruise mission impossible moment lowering themselves down to get at them 😂😂🙈 little monkeys! I always sending them flying to a new place to live. I always wonder what they must think as they’re flying in the air as they’re normally so slow. They go for soft landing in the grass and flowers behind us, then make their way back to just attack again 😅
I’m sorry for your disappointment but I’m afraid that’s gardening for you we all go through it.maybe check out better covers for you seedlings and cut your grass shorter and weed this will help to keep pests at bay also look up companion planting,
Hi Emma, Love the vlog. I just ordered strulch from ebay where it was £16 delivered free, Thats £6.50 cheaper than Wilko per bag and I don't have to go and get it. Thats quite a saving xxx
Oh poor you! Sometimes when you put netting on low down it helps the slugs more, and, the birds can't pick them off. Yes it's a good idea to put more stuff in, some for the slugs and birds and some for you
Im so sorry Emma i know how hou feel i dont usually have a huge slug/snail problem but theyre huge this year and everywhere and ive sen them eat the dead ones, fingers crossed for the rest of your veg/flowers 🥰
oh Noooooo… I feel your pain sweet. I use beer traps and they work brill. I also follow my grandads teachings of 3 for the birds, 6 for the slugs and 9 for the humans.. I always grow many more seedlings than i need…
If you go to the woods you will get all the wood you need for FREE for canes. The wet spring has meant for troubles with growing…….parnips do best in warmer times when its generally drier abd the plants grow quicker………ive yet to plant my courgettes……which is best in late may and june.
I'm using scaffold netting, it seems to be keeping most things off. It's a bit virulent green, but I'll put up with the colour ! As others have said, try to grow your plants to a bigger size if you can, less likely to be totally eaten.
Make some cheap beer traps works wonders .
Funnily enough this video cheered me up, because I felt that I'm not alone. 😊
The only slug control that works, is to catch them (from under the boards or from where ever) and to:
1) kill em
2) put them in a little bucket with a lid ( dont make airholes) and take them with you away from your plot and release them somewhere far far away.
I cut ginger ale plastic bottles and put them round the stems if young plants.keeps them out until they get bigger . Don't loose anything and also the sqirrels cant dig my beans up.Try it ,it works
Oh Emma just watched your video.Just get back asap and try the beer traps also the plastic bottle teick round your young plants.Good luck.
Did you know you can throw slugs quite far away but they always return to the same place?
How about putting crushed egg shells around your plants , I know you’ll have to have loads though , xx
Put some cups in the garden beds and put some beer in them , it will attract them and they will die
Emma it’s horrendous that our government shafts us but when we do our best for nature…
Well I’d happily vote conservative v slug 🤣🤣🤣
Exactly the same for me Emma. Just had a few days holiday in Mallorca, came home to find slugs and snails under the netting on my cabbages, chomping away and they've had almost all of my peas. Carrots gone too! I have that slug stuff you use coming today so I hope it helps. Was it worth getting away for a few days in the sunshine…..yes!!!! I just have to start again🤣🤣 xx
I thought you will harvest the seeds of all those plants
