4yo Avocado tree in SEQ – anything to worry about here?

I was gifted this seedling, I believe it’s a Shepard avocado. Planted in front yard on top of slope approx 4 years ago

Had a few dry hot weeks approx 4 weeks ago when I noticed wilting starting, followed by relatively cold dry weather

All leaves went brown at that time, spoke to the local nursery who suggested Root Rot product treatment as well as keep water up (50/50 as to whether fungus or too dry)

Just noticed some new buds forming on the branches but also browning of the current ends where the leaves have gone brown.

Not sure if this is a natural withdrawing of nutrients to support new growth or something to worry about like disease?

Should I cut off the brown ends or leave them?

That dieback does look fungal to me. Definitely not natural withdrawing of nutrients. Fungal issues can be hard to properly identify, it could be in the roots as the nursery suggested, or could be a fungal/wilt disease issue in the stems.
What I do know is you need to prune the dead stems back to stop the rot spreading further into the tree as soon as you can and continue to monitor
