  1. I personally would probably go for a #DWC. I am aware that I probably need to add a lot of oxygen in every grow bed to prevent root issues, and it needs enough bio filtration outside the growing area.
However, clay media is extremely expensive here, and I think I world be able to cut some costs. Even with extra pumps for oxygen and a larger bio filter. Also, if something happens during winter and the water is freezing, the clay is most likely pulverised. At least a good amount of it.

All in all, I think a lot would speak for DWC, at least in my case.

As a second option, I would experiment with DRZ, e.g. for things like potatoes. But all that is only possible is if I can get a greenhouse going. Including heating in winter and all the electricity needed for the pumps. Most likely, I would need some solar to offset the cost in the long run.
Without that, I would have to drain the system every winter. In other words, I can simply stick to growing in soil.

At least, that is my current train of thoughts.

  2. G'day Rob – Looks awesome mate, would be a major breakthrough to incorporate direct ground and earth connection into the water transfer concept – I've recently been constructing some small bathtub wicking beds in the backyard but are disconnected from mother earth.. the next little project is to have wicking tanks incorporated into the main garden bed to enable plant to earth direct connection and potentially include some fishtanks similar to yours – Keep up the good work and thanks for the good ideas!

  3. Thanks for all work to share aquaponics info. Always helpful and understandable! I would like to see the dual root zone DRZ, and the pros and cons of the this technique. THANKS

  4. Hey Rob. From South Africa here and you definitely inspired me to start my own system.. watch ur video every week and have probably watched them all more than once lol. I think the nft and sand beds would be interesting to watch how you do and then also 1 mb and 1 dwc. Some variety there.
    Thanks for the awsone vids

  5. HI Rob! I have been quietly following your videos and actually have 2 systems because of it. I think it would be cool to do a bed of each to show everyone the difference of each one running on the same system.

  6. It's great that you explore different ideas for growing. I have been working with NFT systems for a while and have found them very useful for short term plants. It would be nice to see you incorporate that into your system . I solved the heat issue by putting a reservoir in the ground to act as a heat sink and help stabilize the water temp both hot and cold. You could run a pipe underground back to you fish tank with the entrance of the NFT drain pipe slightly higher than the exit into the fish tank and accomplish the same thing. Cheers Thanks for the video

  7. Hope you are doing well! 😊 I guess you have all the goddess knowledge about aquaponics and all the power to create all in one design, media bed, nft, dw and drz its really great to see all videos, I've literally learnt a lot from you through your videos. Also I'm going to start a small setup at home which I'm thinking to do as media bed and don't worry won't copy yours like you've taught. Wish me luck and thank you for being so active for aquaponics and looking forward to keep learning more also to see your latest updates on your new system build. 😊

    Take care

  8. Drz, if you please. I want to play with that. Would be nice to have see your approach as well. Cheers. (NH USA)

  9. Hey rob. I currently have 2 250 gallon fish tanks but would like to add 2 more in line. I will have one radial flow settler connected to each one(4 total), do you think it would be ok to have the outlet of the radial flow settlers all connected together to flow into my moving bed filter? Or would i have to have 4 seperate drain lines, one for each settler?

  10. I would love to see and get your feedback on using the NFT setup. I feel like long term, the root buildup becomes a pain to clean out once plants run their full life cycle

  11. I’ve always wanted to try a vertical garden along the fence fed by the Aquaponics system

  12. I would love to see the DWC system and most definitely the Dual root zone. I would have loved to see the IVas system also This is awesome

  13. Hi @Rob i have three fish tanks i recently add fingerlings fish ,my plants started turning yellow and loose health growth what might be the problem_____? thank you
