New! Summer Landscaping DIY on a Budget | Backyard Makeover Series
Hi! I am starting a series of getting my back yard into shape before my son’s 2nd Birthday in July. I am starting out by removing old landscaping rocks, planting new plants, repainting the deck skirting and installing new rocks. Let’s get started!

  1. You did an amazing job and it looks great! You help remind me that everything does not need to be done in a day. This helps relieve the stress and anxiety that projects can bring 😊

  2. This was so inspiring I've been dreading having to weed my veggie garden bed but I feel like tomorrow I can just work on half at a time rather then do the whole lot.

  3. We actually took up all of our red rock as well. I agree with you! The light Rick looks so clean and it really does make your flowers pop a lot more!
It looks great! I love Mr Mac picking your flowers. Reminds me of our son when he was a little !
    Have a great weekend❤

  4. You’ve worked so hard on your yard Jessie and it shows! I do little bits as well….just painted the trim on 2 garage windows today. Progress is progress 😊

  5. 😂I couldn’t stop giggling while you worked hard and Malcolm plucked the flowers. Oh little boys. ❤

  6. Purple shamrock, I live in Texas and I'm telling you it doesn't die. We have had freezes, weed whacked it by accident it always comes back. It can look like it's dead, give it some water it's like new again. They come back every year. Nothing kills them lol.
You did a fantastic job, that's back breaking work and you guys have a huge yard. A little at a time will create an everlasting garden. ❤

  7. I love being outside and doing outside stuff also. He’s just the most adorable little man ever. I love what y’all have done around your house. Absolutely gorgeous.

  8. I always say, who needs a gym membership when you've got yard work to do 😅!!! And with rock, at least you don't get splinters!! Looks great 😊!!

  9. Great advice on doing a little bit at a time, now a days most people want major renovations and that’s nice too but unrealistic for most people. Keep up the good work.

  10. You sure got a major workout that day! It looks so pretty 😊 Malcolm is such a little cutie!

  11. Looks like Jessie on the go. We don't have the back for it anymore, prefect words. Back breaking work is right especially as we get older, then the next morning we can't even move. Every little thing you do to home adds beauty, and doing it at a slow pace is perfect then you know exactly what you want.

  12. If you have an area that gets a lot of sun, verbena would love being planted there. I once planted 3 6-7” pots and in just a few weeks they completely filled a ten foot flower bed, they spread from side to side while growing taller at the same time. Mine were purple, but
there are other colors as well. My husband and I landscaped our back yard with a lot of flowers we could cut for the house. If you go to Lowes you can probably find a lot of plants that looking like they are just trash, but many are bulbs, so you could go ahead and get them and plant them now, it’s an easy way and cheaper way to fill in beds, you probably won’t see them until next spring but you’ll
be glad you planted them. One other thing we did was group our plants together, rather than plant in a line, and we tried to put plants of varying heights next to each other. My beautiful landscape is the only thing I miss about California. 😂 It seems impossible that Malcom is just weeks from turning two! Tomorrow is my great granddaughter’s, daughter in law and my birthday. I’ll be 80!!!!😮

  13. You might check into a canvas awning to cover your deck, you can get retractable ones and they last a pretty long while, probably around 10 years depending on how much sun you get back there.

  14. Shasta daisy, black eyed Susan’s, and cone flowers are super easy perennials. They bloom for most of the summer into fall. Pops of white, yellow, and pink.
