Backyard Edible Garden Tour In Los Angeles, California | How to prune garden tomatoes? To grow healthy and prolific tomatoes, you need to prune them, I mean prune them heavily. Start with the bottom leaves, then keep on pruning as they grow. The bottom half should be clear to allow proper air circulation and to prevent pests and diseases. Here’s my weekend gardening with lots of pruning, from tomatoes to grapevines, nectarine and pear trees. With some harvest too – strawberries, peppers, kumquats, mint and beets.
