Beautiful Drought-Tolerant, Low-Maintenance Flower Bed | Gardening with Creekside

I am excited to plant a beautiful, drought-tolerant, low-maintenance flower bed at our mailbox! This garden is quite a distance away from the house and any type of water supply so I need it to flourish without a lot of fuss from me. These fantastic plants have proven that they are great garden performers without a lot of attention from me, and I can’t wait to see how they grow in the coming weeks & months!

  1. I didn’t hear/see anything the first half of video for looking at the leaning tree behind you 🥴. Will have to view this again 😂

  2. I have the same problem with critters, very annoying. I think they are after the bio tone fertilizer..I started to put chicken wire cages on until they are established then remove them..love your videos..

  3. Every time I use Bio Tone in the planting hole my plant is dug up by raccoons by the next day, therefore I have had to stop using it!

  4. Thanks to your videos, I am using compost in my pots this year. I literally said out loud"you were right Jenny! "when I saw how finished they look with that top dressing. So I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks! Lol

  5. We have the same problem with the raccoons pulling up plants as soon as they are planted, grrrrrr!

  6. Hi, Jenny❤. Nice layout! Looking forward to the progression of growth in the bed.

  7. I think this is going to be one of my favorite flower beds you have planted yet! Just love!

  8. I use cayenne pepper or garlic powder from dollar store to repel the racoons and squirrels from my flower beds, works perfectly and non toxic

  9. Hey Jenny. Love the new flower bed!! Looks great! Yes, the raccoons are going after the Bio-tone. They can smell it and they love the taste. I have a couple of bags in my greenhouse and they come every night trying to get in. 🦝🤨 Thanks for the great video☺

  10. Yes, my dogs will dig my plants up. It’s that plant tone. They eat it. I had to stop using and buy a different kind of fertilizer🧚🏻‍♂️

  11. That will be absolutely gorgeous!!! I found one single PW Mojave Yellow Portulaca about mid-way through last Summer and popped it into my flowerbed with a tilted pot – oh my, what a stunning plant this is. Kept the plant label because it’s on my plant shopping list for this year. You talked about raccoons digging up your annuals last year Jenny – I’ve never used Biotone before, not once. Last year since I heard so many people talking about it season to season, I decided to add Biotone to a bed where new Tulip bulbs were to be planted. I added the Biotone, planted my new expensive bulbs, watered and before the first frost hit the squirrels dug up every single bulb. They’ve never touched anything before until Biotone was added to the soil. Not using it any more. 🙂

  12. Thanks for this video! My mother-in-law and I stopped by the nursery a couple weeks ago and she had this question for you because she was used to Michigan weather and "full-sun" plants kept dying in her North Carolina full sun. 😅😊 She picked up a salvia that day. I'm going to send this video to her, it'll be so fun to see how this garden grows and progresses this year! I've had so many experiences with full-sun plants dying here because our sun is so intense.

  13. Squirrels are what digs up my flowers and bulbs. They even taste test all of my hot peppers. Cayenne and pepper flakes don’t deter mine. 😂

  14. My dogs go bonkers for the espoma fertilizers. I can only use it at the very bottom of holes during the initial planting because they will come and dig/eat it. I assume it’s the salts? I’ve had to move to osmocote to fertilize established plants in the backyard. 🙁
