What Should You Be Doing Now? | Gardening In June

It’s June and boy, is it getting hot in Georgia! The garden is in full-force and we are harvesting every day. The temptation to just harvest and cruise on through summer is also in full-force. Do not just let the garden go, there is still plenty of time to continue plantings. After you harvest your potatoes and garlic, have something prepare to go into these plots. Find out your first average frost date for the Fall, find days to maturity, subtract to see if you have time to plant/grow. If it will take longer than the days you have, it’s not worth risking. Be sure to add a week or so for harvesting to be safe. Let’s discuss your June Garden To-Do List, grow together, and Get Dirty!

  1. Old goat is hanging on the fence. One thing we do in June is start putting strawberry runners into pots with soil to root for later transplanting.

  2. The old goat is hiding behind the white picket fence and we planted bush butter beans colored and green!

  3. We have added a fair amount of sunflowers in the garden area. Also trying to add more and more flowers and incorporating them into the garden as well. I would have to say that the Old Goat is more a whiner than a singer over Hosses right should and saying don't fence me in! As far as June planting for us okra always after the first of June. Then with a rather cool May we are now finally getting our corn in the ground!

  4. The Old goat is behind the picket fence on Greg's side. Okra is about the only thing I usually plant in June. I hope you are right about zone 9 being OK to plant roselle because I just planted some (my first attempt at growing it). I really want to try making roselle jam this year.

  5. Great show, looking forward to what direction to go after plants stop producing. Our squash is about done so looking maybe plant some root plants to follow. Looks like the old goat is behind the little white fence with USA on the front. Thanks for the great content!

  6. Love the show. The Old Goat was really easy today, standing behind the USA fence. I usually get my Super Sweet Corn in first week of June in Northern Ohio.

  7. Old goat is behind Greg’s right shoulder on the second shelf. Behind the USA fence. I’m in 7a and planted everything but I’m now planting some Datil peppers.

  8. Old goat is on the shelf behind the USA sign flags, between the two stars! I have been so happy with everything I've purchased from Hoss. I discovered y'all last year. I'm so glad I did. Great show! I'm glad y'all talked about summer cover crops today!

  9. Hi Folks – Old fenced in behind Greg. I plant cover crops in June here in zone 10A

  10. Can you talk about your hot and cool seasons? Here on the San Francisco Peninsula, we transplant tomatoes when it's warm around mid-May. Heat usually starts the end of May and ends around mid-October. There's is no rain, usually, from March to November. This year was unusually rainy and so far no temps above 70F. You are harvesting when our plants are just beginning to flower!

  11. Hello, the old goat is on the second shelf behind Greg just behind the USA fence. I am going to plant zinnias and sunflowers in June
