When To Stop Feeding Compost Worms Slow Food | Vermicompost Worm Farm

Don’t prolong your worm castings harvest by feeding slow foods & more bedding! But how soon before your harvest should you stop? Find out as we start to transition my Tiny Worm Bin from the feeding & volume production phase to worm castings harvest phase.

In this video we’ll dig through the last feeding zone, find the last remnants of the lime vs lemon experiment and talk about how this bin got its start! We’ll also show you why coffee grounds are not grit, go over some moisture considerations & go into depth on when to stop adding bedding & why.

Epigeic worms or composting worms are fascinating natural composters & fertilizers that are in most homesteaders bag of tricks to make free organic fertilizer & soil amendments as well as fishing bait. If you’ve ever thought about vermicomposting or composting with worms to make organic fertilizer & natural soil amendments with your plant based kitchen scraps or food waste, this is the channel for you. I have 3 worm composing bins which you can watch from start to finished worm castings on the 3 playlists following each worm bin. If you haven’t started yet, get started now and vermicompost with me!🪱🪱🪱 Visit my Channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/VermicompostLearnbyDoing

  2. Gave my new worm bin a cucumber huge one was in the bin for 3 days and well moldy before then added the worms and in 2 days no cucumber so time for 2bananas for a week

  3. Hahaha!! That buzzer was unexpected & made me chuckle 👍🏻 The bins I fed today were transitioned from plastic to paper covers & were also switched from routine composting to foraging. Although your tiny bin is somewhat smaller, the basic message you conveyed here is reminiscent of the video I prepared earlier 🙂

  4. If the carrot wasn't previously frozen, my bet is we will see it again. Root vegetables do tend to stick around a bit longer. I guess they are used to being exposed to soil microbes! Another colourful feeding, Patrick, including the Fruit Loops!

  5. I’m having some issues with my worm bin, i have mine outside with a lid and plenty of air holes, I have lots of shredded cardboard for them and I keep it moist and I use crushed egg shells. However every night after midnight they all try to escape, during the day they are fine and stay burrowed but once nighttime comes they all crawl up the sides and try to get out. What would be wrong?

  6. Your 3-gallon setup looks like I could move my colony from outside to the basement for the Colorado winter.

Do you have a tutorial on how to make that?

Any other tips to moving the worms? I was thinking it would be a casting sift and worm count and the. Start them off fresh with damp bedding etc.

This is our first year after previous attempts have been unsuccessful as the worms didn’t winter well in the garage.

  7. Small detail but holding back on slow food 6 weeks before harvest is a pretty cool tip !!
Saved by the Autumn again. I think its time we have an Obrein-off. Dualing bins, she does what she wants and you do you and compare the difference in say 6 months ????
Lets gooooo Brother and Autumn !!
    Cheers J&C 🌱🪱🤞🤜🤛🇺🇸

  8. The best producer ever! 😄😄 that's a beautiful balanced diet, I'm going to have to try the cereal on mine, excellent video as always

  9. ❤👍 it seem they do all right with a dose of yellow #7 🤣 ❤🪱✌

  10. Like you said about pot worms I had a lot but they just went away before I even tried to get rid of them. and a few just help to break it down! 🙂 and nice alert sound I did not know worms made that sound LOL🤣

  11. Carrot & beetroot seem to not be a favourite in my tower. Either because they weren't frozen, or I just have fussy Worms lol

  12. Its been almost a year, if not more since i started following you, and you definately deliver a good video every time you upload it

  13. Glad to here the pot worms are more in check now. About 6 weeks until harvest, it will be here before you know it. I think there will be a nice worm ball in the tomato on the next check in. 😁🪱🪱
