Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. 5. Hi Mark, I love your videos and find them very inspiring. I also love that tool that you’re always using, could you tell me what its called, please?

  6. Unless I am really doing some heavy digging, I don't usually use gloves, either. I like to be able to feel the weeds, roots, etc. Plus, it has been shown that exposure to the microbiome in the soil is good for you, both physically and mentally. I guess I wouldn't recommend it if you were immunocompromised, but I am washable. 🙂

  7. Love your videos Mark! Thanks for the inspiration and information!
While I've been actively gardening for over a decade (and casually throughout my life) I'm digging deep (pun intended) with expanding both my own and my mother's gardens this year to truly yield an assortment of crops. Various challenges as we are "(sub)urban gardening" in Brooklyn, NY but we're doing it!

  8. I have to admit. I've watched a ton of garden vids. I've learned to watch the gardeners who go big. They can't afford to not use productive methods. But your vids? I get the most practical info and instructions from your vids. Thanks.

  9. Don't allow "negative" comments, such as handling "cow maneur" with your hands, to bother you into an appology for it. Those statements come from "yuppies" who find things in gardening "yuckie." It's not their forte. They haven't the passion or the beautiful appreciation one derives from what it takes to watch you garden sprout, grow, and become fruitful; Unlike themselves. You're being yourself, and I enjoy the multitude of your homemade, organic, tips, etc. Commercial products are too expensive to buy all that one needs to care for a garden that does much better than the yuppies with gloves. Keep on rockin! Thank you so much, Linda, Dallas. TX USA.

  10. I thoroughly enjoy "getting into it" with you and your garden. You really got me thinking about getting back into gardening. Your enthusiasm is contagious. Your years of experience comes through without being boring and lame. Keep putting out those raised bed videos. Thumbs up

  11. Hello from Singapore! Just discovered your channel and subscribed! Learnt so much from you today and inspired to set up a raised bed maybe on a smaller scale in my little garden. Thank you for your videos! Will keep watching and learning !

  12. Hi Mark, I've been in the process of trying to create a raised garden bed. I have a nasty case of tendonitis in my back so I only have short periods when I can work. This means that the progress is very slow but each of your videos gives me the motivation to carry on, your inspiration is priceless, thank you so much xx

  13. Great guy, I'm really love his ideas of self-sufficiency.
This's real by turning kitchen waste and cow manure to be various foods.
    Cheers

  14. Hey mate! Amazing channel. Quick question for you. I’m thinking of getting these raised galvanized beds. Do you reckon rats can climb up them? I have had problems with rats munching on my veggies.

  15. Excellent channel! I always learn something new watching your videos amongst other great gardeners with stellar channels. Love these videos

  16. if your soil isnt good in water holding, place some red clover seeds in in begin of fall, chop them down before winter comes and next season you will have way better soil

  17. Thank you for your videos, channel and sharing all your knowledge and experience, it's so very helpful as I'm trying to take my hobby gardening more seriously and grow more food, and learn more about soil, etc. So a huge thank you from me!! Really appreciate it. Cheers from Adelaide.
