  1. Well done Phil on the BBQ and the bar looks amazing.

You are a stand up guy. All will be well. Repairing, reusing, up cycle, buy used … I bought a used leather sofa that is such a good one when my old one broke down and couldn’t be fixed. Also go to charity shops, thrift stores and consignment shops. I was taught to make do with what you have, a stitch in time too. Schools today don’t teach shop in school, or home economics,. I am just like you in thinking about our throw away society.

Your friends are coming to spend time with you, but like you I always want things to look good.

Be safe and stay healthy Phil. Hello to Angelina too. ❤❤❤

  2. Phil you could rent a tent ? I mean you have a chateau good idea to get things sorted and maybe have people over more often… good for our mental well-being… exactly Phil you took the words from my mouth…

  3. Phil I agree it’s sad how everything is throw away … things need to be repurposed and reused. People need to learn to be minimalist.

  4. It is a throw away world people just waste money where I live you quite often see barbecues ready to be picked up and thrown away. The extra work you have done to your barbecue it might last another eight years if more people thought as you do the world would be a better place thank you Best wishes keep safe keep free from Lynda by the way good luck with your new channel

  5. I have a Panasonic microwave, which I use every day, which I had from new 40 years ago! Things were made to last then, as others on here have said, and I switch it off when not in use. My sofa is about 19 years old, which I bought when I worked on the furniture department at John Lewis, in High Wycombe. It is still lovely, and I just keep a cover on it for every day use, which I take off if anyone comes to visit. My curtains are about 16 years old, and still as good as new. We just need to look after things, and they will look after us! I myself am 66 years young, so I suppose the same applies to me?! Look after yourself young Phil, you are such a good person, and anyone would feel honored to have you as a friend. xxx

  6. I'm a firm believer of make do and mend, having been brought up that way. I very rarely throw anything away or give anything away that I can't make into something else that's usable. I don't hoard but make a rule of only having 4 projects on the go at the same time, this way I find its easier not to get bogged down or bored or even overwhelmed. Its a great feeling of satusfaction when you've fixed or mended something. Another channel will probably bring you in a new lot of viewers who love restoring cars anyway, and will benefit your talents rather than it just being a hobby. BBQ if it ain't broke use it. 💕🇦🇺

  7. The BBQ looks great! I love how you extended its life. And even when it no longer works as a BBQ, I'm sure you could find a creative use for it (…birdbath? Tool holder? Lol).
    Tell Lightning we woooooolf him!

  8. Agree with adorable ethics 👍🤗 hope your BBQ weekend works out 👍
    Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤

  9. Yes repair reuse become too much of a disposable world and dumps becoming overrun now look reinvesting in things we have do have 49 studebaker pickup hot rod no longer a classic but my husband I built the truck and put on the road 20nyears ago this past June so been working out the bugs this summer so I can drive to local car shows without issues unfortunately lost ,y husband Feb 2020 and could not get into the truck till late last year very painful without my driver now Iam the official driver have a great mechanic to get truck back in top driving condition and now going to shows this year only did 3 last year already been to 4 this year so far going to enjoy see old friends and then sell the truck as she is 500 hp a lot for me to manage but enjoying her just the same the truck is beautiful have driven her all over the US more comfortable then my 2015 cadililac srx ! Big comfy seats a solid truck !But very custom so may take awhile to find a buyer going to put heat in the garage for this winter and keep it comfortable at 18 degrees to keep moisture at bay and do a photo book on this beautiful beast of a truck ! So reuse keep the dumps empty if we can what ever we can with house hold items and autos !

  10. Yes totally agree Phil we should try a fix what we have instead of throwing. Not a fan of the disposal world

  11. Your all or nothing type of guy .I get it , be kind to yourself ❤️🦘❤️🦘❤️🙏take care from Down Under

  12. Totally agree with you Phil…refurbish and reuse as much as possible. I must say your chateau is looking very good and whichever way the weather goes, your party will be a great success. 🙏❤️

  13. “Mend and make do”. It got people through the Great Depression and WWII. It is still a great way to live especially since what one can buy new is probably not as good as what was just fixed!!!🤔🤓🤭

  14. Repair and restoration – especially furniture and clothing. There is still some good solid wood furniture.being made at a very high price but so much is veneered particle board or even sawdust. I've been getting my clothes at Goodwill stores because it is often still whole fibers. Fibers built with recycled material tend to wear out faster. Actually I think there are people going to the Goodwill store buying up the whole fiber clothes because they are getting harder to find. A clerk told me about two people who had recently spent thousands buying up the cloths. There were no sweaters and everything else was acrylic or polyester.

I tried to replace my old kitchen stove about two years ago but could find only one close to what I have. It's a 24in wide stove and almost no one carried tham. It claimed it was energy efficient but what sort of electric coil control starts at a higher temp at the low end of the scale. drops as you turn through the scale to the high end and gets too hot to measure at the high end? And all four burners did the same thing. It was made in Mexico and there was zero customer support. I returned it and repainted the old one. The oven cleaned beautifully with a good scraping with a razor blade. Stripping the old finish off the outside panels allowed a very clean repainting with an enamel appliance spray paint. I did the same thing to the top but really have to find a hi temp enamel white paint. All I could get was flat. It took about 6 hours to do over two days. I had a problem with the oven coil ( I thought the coil had burned out) but it was actually the plug end that had burned out and that was easily repaired with a bit of copper sheet. I think a little grease had reacted with the old metal over 40 plus years. The resistance coil was still in great shape..I saved over $700.00. It had better features than any of the replacements I had looked at. The delivery guy claimed it was the "Cadillac" of stoves. Than my old one was a Rolls. Anything made of metal is getting thinner and lighter. .

There's no substitute for DIY. Even second hand stores seem to be getting the cheaper materials now. because no one is getting rid of their better stuff. I'll bet it's all becoming "legacy" furniture. Maybe even the cloths?

  15. You are so right about this disposable world we are living in. It’s killing this beautiful earth that we are so blessed to be living on. I have always taken very good care of my possessions and reuse things in creative ways when they are no longer useful for their original purpose. I hope we are not a dying breed, but you are much younger than me, so hopefully there are young people who feel the same. The patio looks great. Keep up the good work. xx

  16. Hope the party was fun and good luck with all of the vehicles. I hope that parts are fast and easy to get.

  17. Johan from Chateau Memoirs has an ingenious way of taking care of weeds on the gravel. In his latest vlog (EP 57) he opens up with weeding the gravel with an attachment to the lawnmower, Amaury from Castle ten Berghe does likewise. I'm sure you can McGuiver something like that for yourself and save you countless hours of weeding your driveway and terrace. Check it out.

  18. I hope the BBQ goes as planned if not cook outside and bring it in 😉 as you said a lot of things you were doing also needed done for your events festival you have every year. I hope that goes well too and someone comes in and assist you with that maybe Sadie and Mo?

  19. It would be lovely to have Q and A. With you and Angelina. Angelina could join via zoom . It would be good to see her again. Been a while? Shame when you went back to UK you didn't grab an hello on film . Hope to see her back soon.

  20. Always fun to follow your Chateau project but I will be very keen to follow the Range restoration. At a time I had a '86 Vogue with the V8 3.9 engine which I drove for almost 20 years. One of the best cars I ever owned. Never any major repairs except 2 times the rear hatch which just rusted away.
