Front Yard Garden

Summer Shade Garden Tour // Gardening with Creekside

It is summer and the shade garden is absolutely glorious! So much growth has happened since the Spring garden tour, and I can’t wait to show you the difference. This shade garden runs the length of our house and our driveway, and we can see it from our two kitchen windows. And what a beautiful sight it is! Come walk with me in the garden.

  1. I find the traps to be very effective against Japanese beetles for me in Virginia. It's called "RESCUE! Japanese & Oriental Beetle Trap". I also found an essential oil blend (Donaldson Farms Japanese Beetle Trap Attractant) to refresh the attractant.

  2. Lowe’s. Japanese beetle kit. Cinnamon oil disk. Natural. The beetles orgy themselves to death. Please. No hate. 🥴

  3. Good lord, she (like the majority of youtubers) loves the sound of her own voice. Just get to the information! It gets so annoying having to listen to "BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLAHBLABLAH". And the god awful southern drawl, ugh! Why do you southerners insist on sounding like absolute simpletons? Learn how to speak normally! With a little bit of practice, you can quickly stop sounding like a backwoods hillbilly

  4. Strange question, but I notice that there is such a nice clean line between your grass and the beginning of the flower bed (where the much and dirt begins.). Do you use a edger weekly to keep this or is there a metal piece that I just can’t see?

  5. I love your window boxes!! They are beautiful!! Also love your videos!! Thanks for sharing!!!🌱🥀🦋

  6. it is June 2. i know its an old vide, but i am wanting to plant a couple things in my shade garden like the euphorbia and lady in red fern. im in WSNC, is it too late to get those planted ?

  7. Idk if anybody told you but that isn’t fungus, those black dots are actually how the fern reproduces

  8. black spot. not enough air for ferns, you have them crowded, ferns like to breath

  9. Love your side garden!❤️ It’s absolutely beautiful! You have inspired me to do something about my garden!

  10. As others have commented, this is a lovely side yard, thank you for sharing! Japanese beetles: I'm in Iowa, and yes, we certainly have them here, its a big problem. Here's what I use, when they start appearing: finely ground black pepper! Yes, this works to repel the beetles, and actually any other pest, including deer and rabbits (there's a huge problem with both of those here too). The way I apply the pepper is to first spritz the plant with water — can use a spray bottle or a hose set on fine spray), and then sprinkle the pepper on the leaves. The water works as an adhesive, to hold the pepper in place. The pepper will stay there even after the water dries unless washed off by rain (a light rain doesn't wash off the pepper). You don't need to apply the pepper every day, but every few days is good. Put it on any new growth, where you don't see the pepper, or after a rain. Nothing touches my plants when I use the pepper. I have a completely unfenced yard, and I grow lots of vegetables, not just decorative plants and flowers. Nothing gets eaten by bugs or animals, and all I use is the pepper. I just make sure to not put the pepper on flowers, since my garden is visited by pollinators from spring until fall. And I've never had the flowers eaten by anything (except maybe the occasional nibble). The only exception to the 'not putting pepper on flowers' is that I DO put it on my tulips in spring, because deer LOVE tulip flowers (and leaves). With this method, I even get to enjoy tulips! I usually plant at least 100 bulbs because I adore tulips. One note about the pepper: yes, you can see it if you're standing right next to the plant, but not really from a distance. And I'm willing to put up with this slight downside, because no way will I ever use any poison of any kind. I'm organic all the way. Hope this helps anyone out there wanting an easy and cheap natural way of dealing with pests.

  11. The fungus problem is an indication of too much water. Treat it with the fungicide, but also pull your mulch back at least 12 inches in diameter around the root crown. Ferns need to breath. Also check to make sure that the crown is level with the soil.

  12. Great video! Love the update – wow so beautiful but as informative as this entire video was the best part of the video was the last few seconds!!! I love it – we get to see your beautiful shade garden… we get some knowledge and a little bit of entertainment! 👏🏾🥰

  13. As soon as I heard your voice, I knew you had to be from North Carolina. Haha I am from NC too. Love your garden! Im trying to find beautiful shade perennial flowers and shrubs to plant in zone 8.

  14. Wow I know a Francesca too and we all call her Franny as well. So funny lol your garden is just so pretty! How are you enjoying the humidity right now!? Yesss with nc you just can never tell.

  15. The white Hydrangea that you wasn’t sure of the name, is White lace. I bought one a few years ago and that is what the tag had on it. Hope this helps. I love the one I have and have even rooted it and now I have four. My goal is to do a row of them on my new property in the mountains. I love your side yard and you have give me some great ideas for plants in the North Georgia Mountains. Just BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for sharing.

  16. I planted 3 Sun King plants about 6-8 weeks ago however, I've noticed that something is eating around the edge of the leaves. What could this be and how do I treat them? Any suggestions of help would be appreciated.

  17. Lovely garden bed! I think I can ID your mystery hostas because I have the same in my garden. They’re called Golden Tiara 👑

  18. I was thinking about adding the Sun King to my shade garden, but heard the plant may have spikes/thorns. Can you let me know if the proven winners sun king has spikes/thorns? Thanks again!!

  19. Beautiful, I love the way you tell us what the plant is, and put the name up so we can read it, also how to care for it. AWESOME.

  20. I just love this video, I had to search it out a second time, as I am finally able to plant our shade garden at our new house. Thank you for introducing me to Japanese spikenard.
