Planting Shrubs That Can Handle Late Summer Heat | Gardening with Creekside

I am so excited to develop the garden around the chicken coop that I just can’t stop myself from adding two new shrubs in this August heat! The ‘Violet Cascade’ butterfly bush and VANILLA SPICE® summersweet will transition really well into their new homes in our late summer heat & humidity.

  1. Yes, I tell all my gardening friends and garden club members about this channel! Perfect especially for those of us who live in North Carolina!!

  2. Thank you so much for that in depth info on the butterfly bush. I’ve had really bad luck with those bushes but you’ve inspired me just enough to try one more time 🦋

  4. So enjoy your videos. We also live in NC and zone 7b. But we are over an hour from you. My mom is 89 but is still active enough to take a ride in the car. One day before y’all close for the season I hope to bring her ‘Bunny’ and we will come for a visit. I have learned so much watching and can’t wait to have a visit.

  5. Just wondering how yall made it through the Monday storms. Some in my area of northwest GA. , had some damage. Love all the info we get from your videos.

  6. Thank you Jenny. I plan on finding some CLETHRA for my garden next spring. Garden Crossings my local nursery is out of the size I would like to buy. 🌺💚🙃

  7. I really like how u take the time to space ur plants according to their full growth stats on their tags. It gives them plenty of air n space n success in thriving!! The chicken coop area is coming along nicely all dressed up n fancy like😁 Great Job!!

  8. I planted a vanilla spice too this year! It will be fun to grow along with you! Love your trio they should give off a nice fragrance! Perfect placement! 🫶

  9. Will you end up with a LOT of eggs when they all start to lay?? What will you do with all your eggs? Sell them at the nursery?

  10. Those 2 varieties of plants are going to be soooooo beautiful. And don't water that butterfly to much. Lol. Thank you for sharing this with us. Great video❤

  11. So a couple things: I love your chicken coop area. The plants that you're putting around it are going to be gorgeous!! Also when I got my first egg for my girls I was a proud mama I'm sure you probably feel the same way. I have a Double Red Quince. I never heard of Quince until this year around May. I saw it on a garden show and thought oh my goodness I have to have that. I went to the Proven Winner's website, I ordered it and it's been in the ground for a couple months now. I can't wait to see it flower. ❤❤

  12. One other thing our chicken coop was built into 1 corner of the barn. We cut a door out of the side of our barn with a ramp so they could go outside and be free ranged. Then they would come in in the evening time. sometimes most of the time we have the door open to the barn so the chickens would go in the barn and lay egg. We knew that we would get 7 A day, 7 hens So what eggs we did not find in the nesting box we had to Go on a mission throughout the barn and Find the eggs and we Always have a couple of chickens that would lay anywhere and everywhere in the barn. It was like hunting Easter eggs! Lol

  13. Good afternoon, Jenny!! If I can send you a picture of this shaded island, would you be able to give me any suggestions to help make it look better??? I have found someone to mow it, but there are wild tree suckers. I don't know how to get rid of them. There is moss all over the island as well. Please help!! Thank you two for all that you do are are doing!!!

  14. One of my faves is a prince charming butterfly bush. I planted it last year and it's strikingly beautiful

  15. Oh my gosh, when you said, “I know you all are on pins and needles,” I thought you were going to say the Unique Stone order has arrived.😀

  16. I adore the delicate purple of the violet cascade! This area is coming together quickly – and yay for the first 🥚

  17. FYI–your glistening does not show up on camera. As for me, when I come in from the garden, I am the living embodiment of the term "hot mess." I am filthy dirty, sweaty, and my hair is plastered to my head. You, however, look quite good.

  18. I love summersweet but my bunnies and deer devour them. Have tried in 3 different places and each time this happens.

  19. "Your videos are not only beautiful in terms of content but also in how you edit them ! keep sharing the awesome videos."🌹🌹🌹"

  20. So happy to see your business prosper and grow. Love all of the butterflies!

  21. Hi Ms.Jenny. Do you deadhead your butterfly bushes? Mine are in bloom but have a good amount of spent “cones”. Thanks for everything you do for us 🌷🦋
