  1. Like anything worth doing, gardening has its "to do's" but if you take the approach of steady wins the race, then it can be very rewarding to see your progress over time. Now Julie–Although you proclaim yourself as a novice, this chunking the work method is something you've been intuitive about (15 minutes to deadhead, next day, 15 minutes to lay compost, etc. And so the dance with your plants continues until you look up and notice that you've been at it for over 30 years!

  2. Suggest you get a rose trellis for your garden-probably a couple. Your climbers will be much better supported and you will have a tidier area that is much easier to prune/inspect for any type of insect invasion.
