  1. This is my first year growing the tree collards. I cook them in my instant pot for 8 minutes, and they are so delicious. I have put the yellowed leaves in my worm bin. I will have to try using them as mulch and burying them directly in the garden. My pet rabbit, however, turns his nose up at tree collard leaves. Go figure. I miss seeing Kitty eating her broccoli.

  2. This is Jean from Alabama do you put holes in the container for the earthworm

  3. Hi Robbie.
Iโ€™ve been using thie bin system with layering third year now. I got this from you four years ago. My homestead garden is โ€˜cut out of the woods. Iโ€™m completely surrounded by woods. The woodland trees have finally found my garden and such the nutrients right out of it. Bins have saved the day!
The farm is biodynamic. To me this is a micro biodynamics. I love making my own soil. And laying is just awesome. Everyone of the pants have their own space. With the farm I grew large crops of the same thing for markets. Now I grow this way. I still have enough for Market.
Iโ€™m so glad I found you all those years ago. And I still take in your videos.
    Thank you so much๐Ÿ’š

  4. You answered my question about using collard greens for compost tea as my tomatoes are planted in the ground

  5. Thanks Robbie…informative as usual ๐Ÿ™‚ I've taken your bin idea to the next level with my squash and cukes…I installed two coiled wicks from the bottom (where 2" of retained compost water sits) to nearly the top of the bin. I planted one squash/cuke over each coil with a pitcher in between them. After just two weeks, these wicked totes are outperforming the non-wicked by at least 30%…and NO afternoon drooping in the hot sun ๐Ÿ™‚ Seems to help with the more shallow rooted veggies. Hope this can help someone survive the extra hot summers we've been having and save on watering.

  6. I just bought collard green seeds today๐Ÿ˜Š
Looking for a place to olant em. I have 2 totes. Am thinking to use those. But i also bought a bunch of sweet potato slips i neet to find a dlace to plant those also.

Our ground is so rocky and clay. Tmrw i have to get this all planted. Thank you for info

  7. Collard kale taro and elephant ears! I don't eat the elephant ears or taro but they grow like mad and get huge. Chop and drop and also add to my bins.

  8. Robbie… I'm from Utah… is Collard a Perinnial?
How would it do here? Would a tree be better? How tall does a Collard tree get?
    Thank You

  9. Got a baby purple tree collard plant and 3 Jolly Green tree collard cuttings in the mail today! Forever grateful for all the knowlegde and joy you have brought to my life!

  10. Thank you Robbie for this video. I feel I want to call you " the queen ๐Ÿ‘‘ gardener." Is that ok if I call you queen gardener? I'm going to have to get some collard greens ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ I'm not to fond of eating collard greens I don't like them much I will use them for my plants for food. Tysvm ๐Ÿ™‚ tell Gary Hi from Pennsylvania

  11. We planted collard in our garden and 2 of the 3 I took out and we planted corn where the collard was and the corn is really growing faster then. The corn planted in another area. We came to the conclusion that it has to be the collard. We didnt take up the roots of the collard.

  12. I hear you re: comfrey. I just ordered roots to plant comfrey because I have chickens. But I also ordered collard for both of us! Thank you for all you do the help us be resourceful, healthy gardeners. I will NEVER plant my plants without worm food and compost readily available. Thank you for your tips, hints, and example. Hugs to both you and Gary.

  13. I had no ideal about this! I've loved collards since I was a kid. I feel like I've wasted so much potential plant fertilizer, By throwing away tons of stems and raggedy leaves! Better late than never. Thank you Robbie!

  14. Thanks so much! I have adopted several of your ideas, sometimes just modifying them for my climate.

  15. Thank you Robbie for the infos๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
I don't have collards bur I have Kales! In fact I use every dead leave. With my winter brassicas I feed all my containers.
Every single video is answering me all I'm wandering ๐Ÿ’ž I've planted some tomatoes like you did. Two tomatoes in the same tote and onions and in another one tote I've planted one tomato and two peppers!
Hope it goes well. I will have to feed them well.
My zucchinis are in their one totes and they are already formed female flowers and male and zucchinis ๐Ÿค— I'm so huppy couse last summer my zucchinis didn't go as I expected but this time it seems it will be perfect ๐Ÿ˜Š
Thank you so much Robbie for the great video again ๐Ÿ‘โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜

  16. I love the way you have displayed your decorative pins on your hat! Such a creative idea that Iโ€™m going to borrow.

  17. I realized I have a 5 gallon bucket with collard greens and garden greens in a 2 bucket system. It's the one that you taught for making compost tea. However, it's from last year. ๐Ÿคญ Nobody will open it. We are all scared but if If I can still use it, I will mask up ๐Ÿ˜ท and do it. So what do you think? Should I chance it. My hubs says he doesn't see why I shouldn't use it, it's just greens. Maybe somebody else can help with this?
    Thanks โœŒ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

  18. what an interesting video. i love how you use space. using chairs and containers if you dont have soil. lovely to watch. i love to add borage to my compost.

  19. I had Italian vegan collard greens for the first time yesterday. They are very good.
They're cooked for a while in a very little bit of water which can be in slow cooker for about an hour. Then they were fried with olive oil, lots of garlic, and some lemon juice.
Collard greens is one of those greens that been adapted to the cuisines of different nationalities.

  20. I let my collards grow like trees. Lol I make the stinky fertilizer and I chop and drop.

  21. Omg, those tree collards and tree kale! I live on the east coast and have never seen these! I'm now in Vermont, and I know the regular size brassica loves our temps, but do you think these trees would?
Thanks for the great tip on using collard! ๐Ÿ˜Š

  22. In Chicago we have wild burdock growing every where, we are thinking burdock is alot like collards. We will try your idea with burdock as a soil builder ๐Ÿ˜Š

  23. I don't have collard or kale but I do have tons of burdock and stinging nettle. Tried them last year to fertilize and I had wonderful healthy tomato and cukes. I also used outdated goat milk half with water.

  24. Thank you Robbie for continuing to teach me to grow what I want to eat ๐Ÿ˜Š and to never give up, but keep trying even when a crop fails. ๐ŸŽ‰ you and Gary are greatly appreciated!!โคโคโค

  25. My collards and Kale are being attacked by bugs in Texas. They will not make it thru the summer. Maybe swiss chard could work.

  26. Is it a rental? Why not just put plants into the actual ground. It looks like a lot of clutter but how much can you actually harvest from all those random buckets?

  27. I have seen pots like your that easy to pop out plants after seeding them for $$$. Rootainers seed cutting and propagation kits. Your idea is much cheaper. Thanks again

  28. Robbie you ROCK!!! I'm growing 10 Tree Collard plants right now! Don't worry, most will be eaten! LOL!!! My family and friends LOVE Collard Greens!!! I grew up on eating them. I cook mine for 30 minutes in my Instant Pot with some smoked turkey tails. They are DEEEEEEELICIOUS!!! The extras feed my chickens and plants. You could NEVER have too many Collards!!! Thank you for sharing all that you share. ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. By the way, Robbie, I hope you see this comment. Comfrey doesn't grow well where I live (Planting zone 10B). As a replacement, I grow Moringa. It grows like a weed here!!! I sometimes use that to feed my plants too. They LOVE IT!

  30. Question: Do you add trimmings of non edible flowers etc like geraniums or roses or other garden ornamentals as plant food too … i know I can mulch them; but I mean for the layered pot system where you are just dropping in leaves from the garden …. Thanks!

  31. Thanks Robbie for the information and reminding me of the free plant food I did this the last 2 years and it works. Have a nice day.

  32. Ok I totally agree! I have just had an amazing thing happen with one tiny collard tree seed I purchased from the tree collard project! I put it on a paper towel with 2 other types of seeds 3 days ago wet it and set it on top of my cupboard today, Saturday to my surprise this tiny little seedling had literally jumped out of the seed husk! Perfect little new seed 3 days later saying feed me now!๐Ÿ˜ฎ

  33. Love your videos. I have to try collards. If i dont like the taste at least I can feed it back to my plants. Watching you garden is so therapeutic, and inspiring. Thanks for all the knowledge you share.
