Container Plant Tour / ๐Ÿ’ฎ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒผ / Herbs, Annual and Perennial Flowers, Shrubs

Container Plant Tour / ๐Ÿ’ฎ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒผ – In this video I give a tour of most of my summer containers. They are combinations of herbs, annual flowers, perennial flowers, and shrubs. I’m happy with most of the containers so far this season. I don’t push mine with a ton of fertilizer.

  1. Rats are starting to eat my J maples, azaleas and also my newly rooted azalea cuttings that Iโ€™ve been working on for 6-9 months. ๐Ÿ˜•
They wiped out more than half of my crop of azalea cuttings.

They ate all my J maples last year too (killing one of them). But last year, they left the azaleas alone…weird.

Noticed this always happens a few weeks after I fertilize. Or perhaps itโ€™s just timing coincidence; since I fert in spring/fall, maybe same time when they are most active.

  2. Okay I've been watching you for awhile and I want to tell you that I love the new introduction segment to your video! The music was perfect. Love the containers and you choice of plants.

  3. If you're in a cold climate like Zone 3, don't worry about your pots becoming root bound. Because the growing season is so short, you want to squeeze as much performance you can out of your plants. So fertilize until you're hearts content. Lol

  4. I had a doe eat my pepper plants the other day ๐Ÿ˜ก let us know what you do! Please show us when you trim everything up.

  5. Beautiful combination of plants. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.๐ŸŒฒ๐ŸŒฟ

  6. The planters look great. The containers are very nice too, they are just as important as the quality/content of what's in them.

  7. Looking Good! Your saying you prune all the annual containers? I just let them do what they gonna do and that how I learn what plants work together. Then for me the amount I fertilize depends on how much I have to water. Ex: if your watering everyday all the nutrients just flush out the container so water soluble fertilize every 10 days makes sense. Also if you have drip set up on your containers it doesn't matter how big the plants get you don't have to water it by hand.

  9. Thanks for sharing your display of containers. Itโ€™s always interesting to see peopleโ€™s choices. I have to admit for the first time I have over fertilized my Boston ferns that Iโ€™ve had for three years. Not happy about that, not sure if they will bounce back, lesson learnt . ๐Ÿ‘โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

  10. Planting pots have always been my greatest challenge. I never like them when Iโ€™m done, or even when they fill in/out. ๐Ÿ™ƒ I absolutely love what you did. The pots and the plants are perfect. Tfs. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

  11. Jim….we have several sun gardens, that get 6 hours of blazing sun…..we are hollowing out a tree that felled recently and wonder what we can place in it that will give it drama and pretty color…for the stump..thanks! Mr and Mrs C. Such nice work…..I am a florist and I can see that you are very talented!

  12. I heard that you can get a lower fence, so long as the deer can't see over it as they don't like to jump over something when they can't see to the other side.
As for fertilizing, I just feel that all the water going through plants in containers just leaches out the nutrients and they have noticeably less blooms for me, when not fertilizing weekly.

  13. I had no idea something like variegated lavender existed. Looks great! Iยดd also like to grow more shrubs and small trees in pots. Thanks for an inspiration!

  14. How in the world did you get that to contort. Love it. All your pots are pretty. I think I will follow your advice and not liquid feed my pots weekly. You really have a green thumb plus years of experience. Do you ever have a failure?

  15. I'm in N. Georgia & we too have had tons of rain & cool temps. I've had to use some liquid fertilizer in addition to my slow release. My favorite container this year has my very first successful heliotrope, a pink calibrachoa, a pink salvia & a white bacopa. The fragrance hits you when you walk up my porch. It's my daughters favorite scent. Couldn't find torenia this year & really miss it. Second fave is my dwarf caladium, dwarf fuschia & white polka dot in a small container in a shady part of the other porch. Cool temps are keeping the fuschia blooming. Odd weather, always challenging!
Love your container groupings, couple of plants I'm not familiar with & will def look for!

  16. All the containers were nice but your favorite is also our favorite. Hoping our Rio dipladenia gets as large as yours before the end of summer.

  17. My containers were showing signs of nutrient deficiencies last season by July so I am giving them a liquid feed every couple weeks this year. In zone 4b so my season is nowhere near as long as yours so Iโ€™m not as worried about the plant over growing the container. Iโ€™ll see how it goes and adjust as necessary next year.

  18. Jim, what gallon pot is your Japanese maple in? I want to grow a Golden Falls or Moon Rise Japanese maple in a pot to 3-4 feet tall and want to know what size pot to eventually put it in?

  19. Your editing and videography are really advancing! Glad to see you enjoying more popularity all the time. Thank you for sharing so many great tips.

  20. Wow – these have grown so much. Looking GOOD! I'm looking for Dipledenia locally because it is just beautiful.

  21. Your containers are beautiful! Hope you will do more of them in the future Jim. I like to see progress on container than in the ground.

  22. Great video Jim ๐Ÿ‘ please check out my brother Wayne his utube Garden channel ThePlantaholic capital T and P his head Gardner holitcualrist at Birmingham botanical gardens UK

  23. I heard most flowering plants are just heavy feeders, which is why feed them more often then what you recommend. Also, I'm in Zone 9b and we water more often than most and yeah , they require water and fertilizer. My daughter is in Nashville. I asked her to subscribe to your channel, as she new to the area, is learning to garden, and your growing zone is closer to her.
