Baking Soda Pesticide and Fungicide Spray

Baking Soda Has Many Uses…..how about as a pesticide? Or maybe a fungicide? Today, let’s look at how to use Baking Soda, or Sodium Bicarbonate, in the garden for an effective treatment against aphids, whiteflies, thrips, caterpillars, spider mites as well as prevention of fungal outbreaks such as powdery mildew.

There are a few caveats (of course), but as always, we’ll cover it all and let you make the most informed choice for your garden! And don’t forget to spray a test leaf first to ensure no phytotoxicity!

2022 is the Year of the Garden! We deserve it after the last little while, and growing our own food and self sufficiency is just the reward we need to get back on track!

  1. Hi Jeff, Why is that my cherry tomatoes (not the leaves) have white spots? Can I use your baking soda concoction? Thank you so much.

  2. Extremely important info. I dont have the oil nor soap but il try just baking soda till I get the other 2 ingrédients.

  3. I used Dr. Bronner's Hemp-Almond castile soap and pure olive oil with the baking soda. I read somewhere that Almond oil /extract can be used for bug control in your home, so I figured that it would work on our plants as well.

  4. Mix 1 liter water, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon natural soap, 2 teaspoon of vegetable oil. Spray plants twice a month for prevention, every three days to fight off infection.

  5. The earwigs are out of control in my garden, I tried the traps whith soya and oil ,some other pesticide for them , what do you recommend

  6. Thanks for making such a instructional video. This is my first time to attempt container gardening

  7. I planted wild flower seeds for the first time this year and I swear the bugs killed them. Only a few flowers bloomed and only lasted a day or two

  8. a liter is usually the size like a liter of coke. You used a cup, is that the same measurement?

  9. 👍 Thoughts on neem oil ? Can you substitute it for the vegetable oil? I know there’s some plant to not use it on and I do notice that it can cause foliage burn . I’m kinda thinking more too on tree trunks but will expect overspray 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Thanks 🙏 good info
