Hi!
My name is Justin and I have my managed my family’s business (S&K Greenhouse) for the last 10 years! It is a local garden center in Shelby, NC that my family started around 25 years ago.

We have a strong desire to discuss and teach gardening to the online community and welcome anyone who wants to learn. Though we have been involved in the plant world for decades we have found that there is always something to learn when it comes to gardening.

Whether you are a master gardener or just starting out this channel is for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos!

  1. My first year as tomato grower. Everything was going so well. They were thriving. Lots of flowers and then tomatoes started appearing. They were getting bigger with every passing day. But then… all of a sudden the leaves started wilting and dying along with flowers. Now they are left with very few green leaves with a few tomatoes. The rest is a dried out and dead plant. I have no idea…the only thing that I can think of is overwatering maybe.

  2. You're a great inspiration, I can't wait to plant my tomatoes tomorrow! Thanks

  3. Great informative video brother. I'm up here in Michigan growing tomatoes for the first time in years! I can only grow in containers in my small backyard for now. I have 3 indeterminate plants. I know you said determinate are your better bet in pots but I didn't know until now. I'll really have to stake and tie them well. I'm learning more about matters this year than I've ever known. I also have to try Duke's mayo. I've seen it in stores up here but always stuck with Helmanns. I'm with you on a good tomato and mayo sandwich!!! I just subscribed.

  4. Hi Justin thank you so much for all the great tips and your great energy!! I m was wondering if you have plans to make a video for how to grow potatoes in pots. Thank you again

  5. Thank you! ❤ wish i had your number or email for any 1 on 1 questions.

  6. anything between duke's mayonnaise would gag a pig , this is most disgusting mess I have ever tasted . Blue Plate or nothing !

  7. I'm fairly new to growing tomatoes. I'm in zone 10. This year I'm trying Early Girl tomatoes. So far so good. I'm worried about heat over the next few months sop I am going to top the plant. That way I can encourage all the energy to go into fruit production before temps are 90+ each day. I have a 30% shade cloth over them now. Plants are about 6 ft tall and have about 10-15 fruit set per plant. We will see if I planted to late into the season. I will plant more tomatoes again in October. We only had one temp dip last year that was below 32 degrees so I'm not worried about frost here in south Florida. If anyone has tips for zone 10 I'd be happy to read them. Thanks in advance.

  8. Just for Hawridge word for those that don’t have availability of certain kind of compost never if it all possible use horse manure

  9. I used cattle fence a created an espalier garden in 2021.. it not only has fruit trees but all my veggies this year..

  10. I enjoyed your video. You’re exactly what I’ve been looking for. I am a new gardener moved from Chicago up to the country and I have a lack of experience so thank you.

  11. I just started growing my first tomato plants as my neighbor ended up with more than she could handle. I feel like I relate a lot to what you say as I’m in northern South Carolina and we likely have an almost identical climate to deal with. Thank you so much for creating such content!

  12. I just discovered you’re the greenhouse maybe 2 miles from my house! I’m glad to see I’m following a local’s gardening tips! 😊

  13. Hi! I'm not new to gardening but I'm new to tomatoes. I have a Better Boy. I planted it in a container. I'm pretty sure it's too small 🫤. The plant is only about 3 ft. My first question is should/can I move it to a larger container? My second question is should I use a cage or a stake? Thanks! BTW I'm in NC too 😁

  14. Wow! Excellent video filled with helpful information! Thank you!

  15. Curious about the tying up of the stems done here so everything remains close to the plant in a column… can anybody explain this?

  16. The plants would be a bit healthier if you fifnt steak them with the sun leaves all bunched up so they could grt dome airflow. ❤

  17. Dukes Mayonaise on a tomato sandwich is a NC tradition in my family. And Grandma would dice them in one inch cubes, tossed with dukes mayo with salt and pepper. This is so good. You will never forget the amazing dish. I'm growing the Cherokee Purple now.

  18. Why your tomato plants have less sleeves or bushes? Know you're purposely from them so the energy can goes to the fruit? I am new to the Garland and try to understand all the garden during the video I have seen they have less branches

  19. NEVER avoid making mistakes! LEARN from them, then you'll be a pro! ☺😉

  20. Per Martha Stewart, I’ve used concrete reinforcing wire to create cages for over 20 years. It comes in 7 foot wide rolls, and a 4 foot length creates a “tube” with a diameter a little over 1 foot. The reaultin cage is over 6 feet tall, and sturdy enough to support a very tall tomato plant. It has a 6” by 6” grid, so pulling out tomatoes is never an issue.

  21. Thanks but don't you think the sun going to tare up those tomatoes in the sun plant supposed to shade those tomatoes just saying thanks
