  1. Learned a ton, Luke. Really liked your thoughts on pruning especially the idea of pruning to a single vine. I had wondered why some flowers didn't get cucumbers. Who knew I would be getting a lesson on the birds and the bees! 🐝

  2. Can cucumber leaves that still look green and healthy go in compost? Same Q for melon vines when suckers are pruned out?

  3. I've had a successful haul so far, and I've been hoping you had a video on cucumbers, because issues are starting to appear. Perfect timing, and thank you!

  4. I did not know you could prune off the leaves that look unhealthy to make your cucumbers produce more. Thank you for the tip. I will share this video with others.

  5. My cucumber plants have had male flowers for weeks and no female flowers. Is there anything I can do to get female flower production started?

  6. Great video! I had no idea! I will put this into practice next year. Thanks! 🙂

  7. I was just in the greenhouse for stage 1 swamp out , cave of cukes, hanging off the ceiling and escaping out the top . Bango ! Video ! …and stage 2 , Angus, out

  8. We’ve had extreme drought and brown spots still appeared. I think it just happens in August.
I think I will succession plant next year. We don’t eat that many pickles to can them, but do like for salads.

  9. I pruned my early summer cukes this year and ended up giving a ton away, made several batches of dehydrated cucumber chips and almost 100 jars of relish. Unfortunately, here in the Southeast, we end up with pickle worms if we try for a second planting.

  10. Anyone has tips to grow cucumbers? Please share.
I have tried a few seasons now – all my cucumber plants died due to cucumber beetles- bacteria wilt disease.

  11. I have been harvesting cucumbers for a few weeks now. I learned to prune the plants like you are doing. I am feeding my house and my neighbors with the abundance of them this year. I strung a section of coated fencing across t-posts and let them ramble. Best year ever for them. Thanks for your info Luke.

  12. I really appreciate your videos and all the tips you provide! You explain things really well and make it easy for an amateur like me to understand. Keep up the good work!

  13. My Straight 8 plants are dying before they even make female flowers. In contrast, my pickling cukes are doing well, albeit slower than normal. I don't know whats going on with the Straight 8s.

  14. A tip: Don't use sulphur fungicide on cucurbits. It's generally incompatible and will burn your leaves to a crisp. 😵‍💫 I'm pretty lucky, my plants recovered, and I'm finally getting cucumber production!

  15. I am growing couple of plants in my greenhouse in the UK. Left each with few branches. I have cut the tops off when they reached the roof. However I often leave a foot long branch (a sucker) on each node and then cutting off the rest.On this way I get few cucumbers out of each branch and in the same time don't allow my plants to get too bushy.

  16. Needed this today! Our cucumbers are OUT.OF.CONTROL!!!!! Thanks for the tips and the confidence you gave me to go out there and do it!

  17. Best cucumber harvest yet for the third time growing big. First time fermenting them with some spicy peppers. Amazing!

  18. This has been my best year ever for cucumbers, and it's a good thing, because I can chow down on 5-6 a day, just by myself. I'm eating a plate full of cukes right now!😁

  19. I honestly did NOT know you could prune cucumbers. My mind is blown right now. I had an ok harvest for my cucumbers but i planted some i got from you. Theyre growing really fast

  20. My cucumbers plants are really bad. I've cut a lot brown leaves off. Did put up 8pts of pickle relish the other day.

  21. 110 today here in Dallas. No rain since April. Cucumbers (2nd planting) look like toast. Think it’s time to plant again.

  22. I will be trying a bush variety in the spring. No space to grow vines, and not many sunny spots.

  23. I planted my first garden this year. I have 3 cucumber plants growing. There are lots of male flowers but no female flowers yet. I have done some light pruning to remove the yellowing leaves. Don’t know what I am doing wrong to not have fruit but the vines are still beautiful! 😂😂

  24. Try the BEIT ALPHA variety. Sweet, thin skinned, and burpless — but the best part, it does't need to be pollinated!

  25. Did not know cucumbers had both male and female flowers. This is my first year growing cucumbers in raised beds. They are thriving and the timing of this video was perfect. Confirmed a few things I was doing and answered many questions I had too! You are my go-to gardener on you tube, thanks for all you do! I also looove Michigan and hope to visit your store in the near future!
