No-Till Garden Project Step 1: EVICTING THE CRITTERS!! :: Party’s Over, Time to GO AWAY! 😆

Welcome Gardeners! Goodbye Critters!!! Ok, well, hopefully goodbye critters! After waking up every morning this week and seeing a literal party going on in my backyard, I finally had enough! I decided to get going on my plans for a no-till garden bed in the back yard! I will be doing EVERYTHING I can to keep the critters away… do you think I can do it? 🤔 Enjoy!

  1. Get you a cat. My cat brings me baby bunnies and full grown. I don't have squirrel problems but I bet if I did, my car would get them. Now I just wish he'd kill all these armadillos that are digging up my gardens 😢

  2. Good luck with your plants and the ground squirrels and squirrels. I have them in my yard and they eat my flowers and make holes in the yard. I have large planters with gomphrena and they have been eating it, geraniums, Angel wings and I once planted scaveola (probably misspelled) and I loved it but they ate it off until it was nubs. I hope you find a solution as being in pots doesn’t stop them.

  3. Good luck janey! Don’t work so hard. Why don’t you do 1 run of your bed this year. That way you get a better feel of how it’s going to work. I feel like your doing a large area for this year. If you watch garden answer she does small areas at a time. It will be more fun and not so stressful in this heat. ❤

  4. HI Janey, i don’t mean to sound like Debbie Downer, but you might want to try just one of your metal raised beds at first. I have been researching these and even some from Garden Supply have bad reviews for disintegrating after a year or two. There are different grades of metal and some will resist the moisture and such much more than others. ——- I’m so excited to see your progress!!!

  5. I used liquid fence on my new perennial garden that was being ravaged by bunnies and let me tell you it was like a switch went off…..they haven’t been back since.

  6. Excellent job Janey 🥰 your critters are definitely enjoying those weeds, I don’t have bunnies but I certainly have plenty of squirrels 🐿 😂

  7. For now, get a above ground pool for the girls, probably VERY CHEEP now. See if you can catch where your critters come in your yard, and start there with critter control. Love your page !

  8. Great video ! So fun with all your hard work and content to see what you have accomplished! Thks for sharing ❤️

  9. You've probably thought of this, but the raised beds could be put together in the cool air of your office. Then moved back to the metal barn when assembled til ur ready to use them.

  10. FYI – I had no idea what the “no dig method” was. Thanks for explaining. 🤓 To me tilling is necessary for compacted soils, i.e. clay, that need life added to it. Otherwise, I personally don’t see it as beneficial. Thoughts? Am I missing something?

  11. Animal repellent sink because of the eggs in it. I learned of the Messina products from Erin the Impatient Gardener. They add essential oils to cover the stink. Work well, smells better

  12. Odd thing is the squirrels and rabbits in our yard/garden don't bother anything. We have white tailed rabbits.
and gray squirrels and I have two Shetland sheepdogs that love to chase them out. We do have a fence and my husband put hardware cloth along the bottom to keep out critters. As far as a Golden Retriever goes, they are cute and smart but very prone to cancer and boy do they shed!!! Have friend's that have had them. I think a picket fence around the garden with close pickets would be so cute, but I understand budget restraints.

  13. I think you are wise to consider fencing for the rabbits. U might also not plant rabbit candy at least at first. I have used bobbex spray in the past and it doesn’t always work. My issue was more deer but I purposely started only planting what they did not like.

  14. Where is the "liquid" part of the Liquid Fence? Do you water the granules that you just sprinkled?

  15. We have a Dashchund that takes care of all critters in our yard. Be careful though, your dog might decide to have a feast and not just chase…

  16. We have two acres of garden completely fenced on all sides but rabbits still enjoy to visit…they seem to enjoy mostly new buds on flowers and young plant roots. I have found that a good deterrent is quite smelly fertiliser. So…not meaning to be rude…pelletised and processed cow poo and chook poo bought from the store definitely has been a success for me. Unfortunately it is not only smelly to the rabbits but for us to but it’s a matter of priorities and what works best for you. The smell does lessen in a few days to me but still seems to have an affect on the rabbits…perhaps because they are closer to the ground. Not only is is a deterrent to the rabbits but great for the plants. For me it is a win win. Hope you find something that works for you as it is so disheartening to spend time money and effort to find that overnight it can all be destroyed. Another alternative is to put guards around each plant until they are established but of coarse this isn’t an option for annuals or vegetables. Good luck with whatever you try. I enjoy your videos…have enjoyed your journey…look after yourself so you can continue on enjoying what you are doing. Noble flowers from Oz has a video on keeping your health on a flower farm…it may be of interest to you. Love seeing Jason out helping you to…it looks like he’s enjoying it all with you. It’s great your two lovely girls are having fun in the extra space to. All the best from Oz. Margaret.

  17. I wish you all of the best in your quest for no critters. However, don't be discouraged if your efforts don't work. I was a part of a community garden for 10 years and pretty much all of the plot owners had to make covers for their veggies. Garden in So. Cal and we were near an open space so lots of bunnies etc.

  18. I put out mixed unshelled nuts and critter mix for "my" squirrels and they do some digging but for the most part, leave my plants alone. I have pine trees and they love to chew on the pine cones. I love them in my garden.

  19. Love all you do! I have found Repels-All by Bonide works very well for a plethora of garden and yard invaders.

    Have a great day

  20. I did the no dig also. I watered the cardboard as I put it down so it didn't move around.

  21. We have had in the past Labradors. One in particular she’d go out with my husband when he was irrigating and when the water flooded their holes and they come up, she’d grab them bite and shack them and go on to the next . Labs are really good dogs I’d recommend them for sure.

  22. Arborvitae are like bunny candy FYI 😂 I was trimming mine and fed them to my pet bunny and she was crazy about it!
