That berry looks like HPV
I’d like to try that sometime
Milk that funk
I have a tree and don't know what to do with the fruit! I like to make wines but don't think it would make a good wine unless paired with something. Any good ideas?
There are several trees in my neighborhood. It is nice to take walks and have this fruit as snack, too!
I tried the berry and liked it. I gathered several fruits from some in a parking lot and brought them home to gather seeds for planting.
Your not to eat the skin/seed, inside pulp holds on to seed, tastes like peach/guava/banana taste with gritty/slightly oily after taste if u get large perfect ripe ones(slightly firm) its less so. Excellent small landscapimg tree, spring flowers, late september fruit, fall color
Checkout some Oriental Dogwood Pilaf recipes, these are normally meant to be used in a dish not just eaten on their own!
I have 2 of these trees in my backyard, when fresh the fruit taste like a cross between mango + peach + melon, pretty amazing actually, just very little fruit for the work.
I discovered these because of my dog who scarfs a few down one every walk by the neighbor's tree.
Will this grow in Washington state?
I’ve spent my whole life with this tree on my driveway and I never thought they were edible!! I can’t believe I’ve been missing out all these years. They may not be as great as some other berries, but I still can’t wait to try them. I bet they’d make a great jam/spread!
The flavor is very mild. It reminds me of paw paw. It's custardy and lovely. I've had the Kousa dogwood for years, and just three or four years ago, read that the pulp was edible. I couldn't wait to try it. I have since set a black metal bench beneath the tree, and when I need a break from gardening, I'll sit, pick and eat these. It is a very gentle flavor and a consistency that is lovely in the fall. I haven't picked a bunch to bring in. Half the fun is squeezing out the pulp and then spitting the seeds. Yum. Now, if only my paw paws would start producing fruit…
These fruit are bussin
