How to quote for gardening work

How to achieve/ attract your first twenty customers. My marketing strategy. https://youtu.be/HItUVvobeVU

My take on how to be successful when trying to gain gardening work. Thanks for watching.

My written quote. Please feel free to cut and paste, adapt to your specification.

Quote ……..

Regarding the three lawned areas to the front and rear of your property.

I will strim where necessary, ie the edges, around the border lines then mow and leaf blow the immediate area to give a tidy finish.

All grass waste is to be placed into bags and then into your bins.

All work is carried out by myself and is done to an extremely high standard. I work alone.

I use petrol rotary lawn mowers and professional equipment.

The price per cut is £…….?

I mow from mid March until late October weather permitting. Approximately 19 cuts per year.

Payment is required on completion of the job , cash or bank transfer.

Please let me know if this meets your needs.

Kind regards.

Rob.

  1. Thanks for sharing. What do you do if a customer doesn't pay on the day and doesn't pay after the Sunday prompt? Do you write that money off and then let them go as a customer? Just curious.

  2. Hi Rob, that's a great tip you gave about not giving potential new customers an hourly rate, but instead giving a quote in writing later that day.
I have to say I'm new to your channel and I take my hat off to you for all your free advice. I'm the same age as you and I'm about to start up my new gardening business so it's good to see and hear of your success. Keep up the great content 👍

  3. Absolutely brilliant, I am a self employed Gardener and I have had some trouble figuring out how to quote.. I have given quotes and then got to the job and they've been so much more difficult than anticipated and Ive realised why the customer snapped my hand off at the original price Haha.. but I think the little 20 and 30 quid calls are the best.. if you can fill your diary and your days with them you're on to a winner.. I also have trouble with a few customers paying on time, I think I will send them Sunday reminders from now on..

  4. Hi Rob. Very much enjoying the channel. Been gardening for a long time now, but your business head is very much more screwed on than mine so it's really made me think about some changes I need to make for the better, so thanks for that. Can I ask when you go to quote a garden an you know you dont want the work, how you then approach the customer to say it's not for you?

  5. Hi Rob great video, very engaging and informative. I’m staring my own business and thinking about building up a customer base. Am wondering how you would go about telling people you don’t want the work? For me it’s an awkward situation so would be interested to know how you handle it. Thanks. Am off to watch your other videos now looking for handy tips!!!

  6. I’m in South Wales and just setting up I’m going to buy some equipment tomorrow and sorting business cards today what are your top tips for me for the next few week. I’m excited but nervous any advise is so welcome. Many thanks in advance.

  7. Another great video Rob, I'm a new subscriber but I've gone back and watched a fair few of your videos already! Absolutely nothing worse than chasing up a customer for money when you're already busy with everything else.. especially when you've done a good job and worked hard it is the very least they can do in my opinion.

  8. Great videos! Recently found your channel and am enjoying the content! Just curious with your garden care if your price includes hedge cutting and weeding, etc or just the mowing? How do you handle the extras?

  9. Hi Rob

What do you do if you ever have a customer try and haggle and negotiate over the price? Amazing to see you had 50odd subscribers back when this video was made! Your channel has come a long way, fantastic channel with sound advice 👍👍thanks for all the content Rob cheers

  10. Thanks Rob, really helpful and some good tips, wish you had been around with advice when I started! Have a good great break.

  11. I am starting this spring, going from health care for 18 years. Done garden maintenance part time with a mate for 6 years, here and there. I'm a little anxious but this has made me feel more confident. Taking the time to express exactly what there money is going on makes it more lucrative

  12. Hi maxwell

I notice that your quote states that you bag the grass cuttings for them to put in their bin.
Do you only do this if the customer doesn’t have a green waste bin in which case you just immediately put them in the bin yourself?

    Thanks

  13. An old vid, but great stuff mate. I learning a few things! I like the idea of immediately handing them a business card… that's a good ice breaker to get your foot in the door. I've just subbed as I enjoy your content 🙂

  14. What a top bloke you are. Such helpful advice and done in a very professional way. I’m in my 50s and looking to do something outdoors and with no office politics. Your videos are pure gold. Thanks a lot.

  15. really seem like a very nice person, always good for business, I'm a gardener myself on £140 a day but I'm about to start getting my tree surgery tickets so gonna have to take a little paycut.
