Edible Indoor Garden Update – Winter 2019

Winter 2019 has been good to us and now it is time for a garden update. We are in Alberta, Canada and grow year round an edible garden.
There are a few things that are new for us this season.

We are experimenting with growing all winter without using additional light. Electricity and grow lights are a cost factor for indoor growers. We wanted to see what happens if we don’t use them. In the video below we show you the result.
We built and tested a simple NFT downspout Hydroponics system that you can see in action. See how to build one: https://northernhomestead.com/nft-downspout-hydroponics-setup/
We moved a wall to enclose the growing area better to keep the heat in.
We installed new heating that gives us the ability to capture all the heat from the flue gas.
Enjoy the garden update – Winter 2019 on video.

  1. Thanks for the great tour! I need to grow more in winter in my greenhouse. Just wish we had more sunny days – can be very gray here for months on end.

  2. Great tour I really loved it. I have been growing lettuces, tomatoes, kale etc. and perennials in my windows for years now and this year I am trying to do a bit of hydroponics by using jars. I really like your set up. Thanks for sharing maybe someday I'll try it. 🙂❤
