There are a 1000 ways to prepare and refresh old container soil. This is generally how I do it. I adjust my methods each year as I learn. I add about 1/3 new organic matter, 1/3 fertilizer and discard container soil that had diseased plants. I further amend my container soil once it goes into a bucket. It varies based on what I am planting in it.
