In today’s video we give you are top tips for a October!
October means we are in the second month of autumn, but summer is returning briefly. There are however plenty of October garden/ allotment jobs that can be done during the month.
Gardening in October is a month of transition, there is lots to harvest in the garden, but also many jobs not least prepping for next year. We also look to prepare the beans from our runners for food through the rest of the year – just remember to cook them first before eating!
Welcome to the No Dig Norfolk Gardener and our no dig/no till garden where we grow vegetables. We garden in zone 9a. Although we grow our veg from our back garden it is very much set up like allotment gardening UK – allotment life. Our passion is vegetable gardening, bigger harvests and no dig gardening. You will see how growing your own food is so easy.
If you have asked yourself the question what should I be doing on the veg plot, what can I be sowing and harvesting in October or what are my allotment jobs for October this is the video for you!

Barry ,never grown broad beans ,if I sow them in modules in the greenhouse ,when would you suggest planting them out in the ground
Try to get hold of some Elista Shallots, ohhh my, i didnt grow many this year, but 100% will be growing more, they have grown massive, some as big as the palm of my hand! Dont get me wrong, i havent got huge hands! Growing from sets just doesn't work for me at all, they just bolt 😞Thanks as always
Penblydd hapus Mrs W. Your greenhouse is at the same stage as mine but i'll see this weekend out and then cleari it for a washdown.
Thanks for reminding me to get some broad bean seeds. I always sow them 14th November – my mum's birthday in memory of her – she did the same. – my garlic for sowing hasn't arrived yet but It's a tad early here for them anyway.
What is the best way to store carrots, I still have 2 x 8 foot rows to harvest. We are not fans of frozen carrots
Have a good weekend
How much compost are you putting on for next year and how are you getting on with enviomesh? I have used the cheaper versions but they don’t last very well.
Hi, I love your video it’s my first watch of your channel. Can I ask where you got your very large nets from? I’m in Huntingdon and I am invaded by pigeons, also butterflies just came into my nets. Thank you so much. Ben
