  1. todays video has a bit of a plot twist, and lots of updates, to catch you all up on where I am in my first-time home buying journey 🏠 — makes sure to watch until the end before you leave a comment! I’m so excited to share this journey with all of you, I hope it’s not only exciting but also useful to hear my lessons learned as well as my experience 💗

  2. Wooooaaahhh major plot twist is right 😅. Thank u for your honesty! I appreciate how brave u were, especially as a women of color. U didn't let nobody play with u even with all the pressure.

  3. I personally think you made a great choice! Location is everything. Like you mentioned, you can always change the house, but not the area it’s in. I hope you find the house you love! 💕 sometimes with older houses, it’s not all too bad because for the most part, you’ll know immediately what you’re working with compared to a new build

    🤩😁

  5. The land is as important if not more important than the house. The reason why I'll never get a new build is because I refuse to be part of an HOA. The HOA basically can take your house away if you don't follow their rules. There are so many horrible stories about HOA members being crazy power-hungry people who cause so many problems that I refuse to get involved especially because they can take your house.

  6. So glad you are sharing your experience as a 1st time homebuyer because some of us are interested/ considering in the near future to be able to do the same… even though it just seems like year after year home ownership seems unattainable due to the prices escalating. Even so, your content inspires & helps us a great deal. Also, you are Amazing Girl🎉 Already buying your 1st home (on your own) in your 20's ~Let's just say I'm livin' vicariously thru you until someday I can go for it too 🙌🏼 I am rooting for you, am so happy & excited for you 🥂 You are surely seeing your goals coming to life & I am here for it 😃 Proud of you 'mija… Can't wait to see your new home ❤️

  7. New to your channel! I just bought my first house so I’m guessing the algorithm brought me to you! Where ever your filming this video looks so nice! Not sure if this is your new spot, but looks a lot better then the house you almost bought so you lucked out!

  8. My closing is in another 3 months. I went through the same stage like doubting my choices and searching for other houses after signing the papers, and also ready to give up the earnest money. The only smart thing i did is to pick a good location even though its beyond my budget thinking that it will be easy to sell if i end up don't liking this house in couple of years( am also in my late 20's and buying house alone) but at the end i am sure that i made good choice

  9. Dude there is nothing braver than recognizing you’re feeling that cognitive dissonance and actually doing something about it. We’re far more likely to justify things to ourselves or rationalize our decisions, so for you to really leverage your resources to follow your gut??? An actual queen 👑

  10. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I think it is great that you are being honest with yourself and what you want because it is so hard. I hope you find the house that meets all your needs.

  11. I appreciate you sharing your journey in such an authentic way. It’s a huge decision! If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always going to nag at you. Proud of you for recognizing that and taking a step back instead of just continuing the process when you feel unsure.

  12. My dad has ALWAYS told me not to do a new build because of stomaching watching them being so lax as they build it. SUCKS.

  13. Selena , I loveeed this video. I learned sooo much. Such an eye opener. Well done!! Please continue sharing these honest videos.

  14. Are you completely sure that you can’t get your earnest money back? I feel like you might seriously have a case with the fact that the builder failed to provide the specifications for the house. New build doesn’t mean blind buy.

  15. I'm so happy you put yourself first and made the decision to keep looking. Love following along on your journey and always take so many nuggets of wisdom from your videos! Would you ever consider a podcast? Not that you have any extra time to a lot to that haha but I bet you'd have such amazing episodes relative to your content here!!

  16. When i got my new build i always just showed up to look at the house by myself! Also, of course things arent perfect before its done. I remember the color of my house was off but when they handed the keys over it was the color it was supposed to be.

  17. Thank you so much for sharing this. Definity a learning opportunity for everyone. I'm sorry you've had to go through it and I hope you do find the best perfect house for you soon.

  18. OMG PLOT TWISTS!!! Did not expect to see this journey go so up and down…from buying the new build with earnest $ to reserve it and then the final result of backing out … wow!

  19. You might have done this already, but if you haven't, you may want to consult a real estate lawyer with your contact to determine if you can receive a refund on your earnest money. It's possible that the flaws you documented in the build may negate the contract. If you've already explored that, feel free to ignore this comment 😆 Buying a house is scary, but it's so exciting too! Good luck on the rest of your search!

  20. Congratulations to you girl that's amazing, I just bought mine last month in CA paid in cash feel so happy for myself and my achievements so far watching this random video. So glad I made good decisions about my finances that changed me forever, I guess it won't be a bad idea making a video of it lol😂💯❤️

  21. The minor defects usually do get fixed after the close to closing walkthrough but the ghosting might foreshadow any post purchase customer service. I’m glad you really thought it through. I’m sure you felt relieved after deciding to pull out. Can’t wait for you to find your perfect place ❤ Idk if you’re working w a real estate agent but they might help strong arm a seller. It’s helpful to have someone who knows all the ins-and-outs of the business. We have ours do all the back and forth w our builders. Either way good on you for making the decision to keep looking for a perfect house!

  22. I had to put 18k for escrow like the same day I signed 😢 and this was on Mother’s Day and it will be done in January (my first house as well)

  23. I think on your 20's is the perfect time to buy a house 🏡. I wish I would of bought a house in my 20's.

  24. Hi Selena, thank you for sharing your experience and being honest about the whole thing. We did the same thing here in Texas 😂 . You have to follow your gut and your heart. It is better to lose $ vs $$$ “Hay Comida en la casa” 😂 .
Cheers to buying your first home 🎉

  25. so happy for you Selina, this has been a trying year for you and you deserve all the good things coming your way♡.

  26. Congrats on your new home purchase journey. I'm sorry for the experience that you had. That is the importance of a good Realtor! Just like in other professions know the ins and outs. Your Realtor would have been an advocate for you. FREE IF CHARGE FOR YOU. People under estimate the power and importance of one there are things that the builder and sales agents will say and get over on you as opposed to someone they know is very much knowledgeable about that process. Hopefully the rest of your journey will go smoothly. For your next home purchase look into one. ❤

  27. I chuckled every time you referred to existing homes as "used". I've never heard that before. I'm glad you realized in the end that you're paying for more than just the "used" house. The land and location make up so much of the value you pay for.

  28. I’m a bit behind on your videos but I’m catching up and wow what a journey so far!! I appreciate you being so open about this process. I’m a long ways off from buying a home (thanks, Seattle market 🙃) but since my only home buying experience comes from watching HGTV, I have no idea what the little intricacies are in the process. That’s such a hard decision and crappy situation to be in about backing out but I’m so happy you listened to your gut and are holding out for what’s truly right for you!! Thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see what’s next!
