  2. When we lived in Southern California we had amazing gardens. I’ve been discouraged to do another one, because we live in the Reno/Tahoe area now. We get deer, squirrels and wild horses. They tear up everything! 🤣 A herd of horses come through our backyard about once a week for the apple trees. In the winter, global warming will bring us 3 feet of snow in just one storm. By the end of winter, we’ll have up to 5-6 feet of snow in several areas, accumulated over the winter.

My outdoor garden is my aforementioned apple trees, some native sage bushes, a few freeze tolerant potted plants and high quality astroturf! It gives me the feeling of grass, without the headaches. The backyard was just a lumpy pile of rocks and dirt in the spring, so it’s come a long way. I leveled it out with a rake and tamper, covered it in weed sheet and am planning to fill in the areas beside the artificial grass with landscaping rock for drainage.

So, my MAIN garden is indoors and consists of succulents leftover from my LA garden. They get a bit leggy. But everyone is amazed by my atrium by the large sliding patio door.

This video has inspired me to give the indoor garden a small makeover I’ve been putting off. Thanks for the spark! 💐
