DIY Backyard Outdoor Wood Edging Landscaping

This is a simple do it yourself video on how to make a wood edging border for your yard using stained 4×4 wood attached into the ground with threaded rod. I didn’t apply any sealant because I like the raw weathered look created by nature and time. The reason I didn’t dig into the ground was because there were a lot of roots, the dirt was really hard, and I wanted to save on wood material – the most expensive part of the whole project.

  1. Man that's awesome.. I was looking for ideas on how to just use cut down logs for this, but the 4x4s looks great .. I like the idea of random staining, and Douglas fir 4x4s are cheap here .. might think long and hard about this ..

Btw, the threaded metal is known as threaded rod, or all thread..used to make bolts, studs, turnbuckles, and to hang things..I work in a distribution facility and we have about 5,000 of those rods mounted to the ceiling to hang overhead conveyors .. about 11 miles of them in a 1 million sq ft facility.. we use them as jack bolts to set the tension on chain driven conveyors, along with many other things..

Anyway thanks for the vid.. guys like you are changing the world for the better! 👍👍

  2. Thats great. I also do not want to waste half the wood by burying it. I was trying to work out a way to do it. You just solved it for me. Thumbs up to you.

  3. I had sanded and stained the whole lot (45 feet long hedge) but was struggling to find a proper way to install them.

Your video has made me life easier.

    Thank you 😊

  4. Looks awful. Folks, don't do that to your yard; you'll be the laughing stock of the neighborhood.
