  1. Do you find that dwarf tomatoes 🍅 such as boronia etc take a longer time to ripen ?

  2. Good Morning Jim – I don't have any fruit trees to propagate right now but your tip on how to air layer a new one was awesome as was the coffee filter in the pot. I use boiling water on my seed starter mix but it still does not stop all the gnats as my yellow traps are still loaded with them. I moved most of my seed starts to my mini greenhouse so at least they are not in the house. Thanks for all the great tips and have a great weekend – stay cool too..

  3. Thanks for those gardening tips, we're never too old to learn. I especially like the pencil tio marking the plants. I've been using a grease pencil but they fade also. Have a great weekend 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

  4. I love using old teeshirts cut up into strips for my tomatoes! I also use tomato clips ( Amazon) for tomato plants that are in cages. Dollar general sales wooden stakes each spring for a dollar, which are about 3 ft high, perfect for staking peppers. I bought nylon melon bags ( Amazon) to put my spaghetti squash in that were growing/ hanging on my garden fence and are supporting them well.

  5. I use a small jar with apple cider vinegar in it to trap fungus gnats.

  6. Thank you for this video! I’m a relatively new gardener and your tips are invaluable to me. (I’ve saved most of them in my gardening notebook.) I can’t wait to try your tip for growing fig trees. Again, this video is much appreciated.

  7. These were fascinating – I would never have guessed the pencil. Also will try to remember the coffee filter in bottom of pot.

  8. Good ideals A sponge in the bottom of the pot works to and will help hold water in Your plants are beautiful. Sunflowers here are getting ready to bloom!!!

  9. Great tips. I have been trying plastic plant labels with Sharpie-type markers of various brands, and erase them after use each year with 99% isopropyl alcohol that I always have on hand for cleaning electronic circuit boards. But I'll try pencil for next year!

  10. Jim, I've always used old nylon knee-high stockings or pantyhose cut into 1" strips to tie up vining plants. However, now that I'm retired, and I've exhausted my stash of old stockings, using T-shirt strips is a great idea. I can't believe I never thought of that before. Nowadays, I almost always wear T-shirts and blue jeans, which are my everyday work and leisure outfits, lol. I hope you and Mrs. Midwest Gardener have a wonderful week! ~Margie🤗💐🐝🦋

  11. I always forget about air layering as a propagation method. My issue is always keeping the medium wet. Do those commerical holders do a better job? Or are you still trying to get water in it? Totally with you on using pencil on markers. Whats really interesting about hardiness is looking at a global map. North America is amazingly cold compared to the rest of the world.

  12. Wow, I never thought about that awesome idea for rooting figs. Or the pencil for plant tags – such great tips!

  13. Thanks for the tip about letting a carrot go to seed. I will try that this year.

  14. Hi, I am from Poland. How are you pouring water into box when you are propagating fig ? How ofter are you pouring water ? What kind of soil are you using in that box ?
