Is there an existing thread somewhere here on path installs? I’m installing a path similar to this, and I was going to ask layer sand, than place path stones and a decorative gravel around them, but not sure if there is anything else best practice why I am missing? (I’m surrounding the stones with gravel, unlike the picture).

No specific guides here, but dozens if not hundreds of people have asked.
There are a few ways to go about it, but you’ll want filter cloth under everything to prevent your base from mixing into the soil below. You can do compacted gravel + bedding sand, or HPB, which is self-compacting drainage gravel. If you want moss etc. to grow, you’ll want sand or a growing medium between the stones, but they might shift over time with frost heave.
