  2. The problem with going by growing zones is that, technically I am in zone 8b which has an average cold temp 5 degrees warmer than you in 8a, but while you are enjoying 80 degree temps right now we are struggling to get to upper 40s. So even tho I sowed leeks, bunching onions, romaine and cilantro a month ago, my tiny little starts are struggling to grow at all because it's just so cold. 😕

  3. Vietnamese Purple Garlic let's gooooo. — We're trying to grow them up here in zone 7.

  4. I still see your asparagus plant in the back. Mine was still green and I cut them this morning. Hope I didn't kill them. I covered them with cardboard boxes for the winter. Zone 6.

  5. Do you wrap your leeks to blanche them? I live in Burlington NC and I wrap my Celery to make them taste milder. I want to grow leeks, but don’t know if I have to wrap them to make them white? By the way, I watch all your videos. I grow in 5 gallon buckets and 5, 7, 10, &;15 gallon black canvas grow bags. I only do container gardening because I am 75 and it is easier on me physically. I pre-germinated 240 carrots seeds of 6 varieties in bowls with wet paper towels on warm heater in house. Last weekend, you were right, it was 85 and I went out and planted about a hundred sprouts in 3 10 gallon grow bags. I am hoping they will make it after getting them to germinate in 5 and 6 days instead of 21! Lol.

  6. Pls comment on why my cabbage planted in grow bags July 31,2023 have not form heads now on November 1st. I am in Toronto canada, we have relatively good weather condition, we had a minus -1 Celsius overnight October 30, and they're covered with plant blankets. Thanks

  7. It snowed here today in IL 😭. 24° 🎃 But my lettuce is still surviving. I have a cloth over it. I’m not too sure I can germinate more seeds, this late. I’ll try 😅.

  8. New subscriber as of today. Off topic question. I would like to order some paw paw trees for spring planting. I live in western pa. It's so hard to find the right nursery to order from. Could you please recommend a nursery you have had success with planting paw paw trees? There are so many negative reviews for a lot of the ones I've found with paw paw's in stock.

  9. I watched a Canadian gardener’s video and am going to try their technique in my zone 6a garden. Basically it’s following what nature does, dropping seeds in the fall for an early spring crop. I used older seeds for greens, lettuces, spinach and a few flowers. Since they’re old seeds I don’t mind experimenting, since you have to plant more than normal since there will be loss. Makes sense though, and mimics things I’ve observed happening naturally. My first fall garden was planted awhile ago and I am really hoping for success. It’s fun, anyway, and a low-risk experiment. It’s always a good day to be in the garden.

PS Collards are a favorite here! I’ve also used the greens from other brassicas that didn’t head and cooked them the same as collards and you wouldn’t know the difference.

  10. I’ve got most of these going right now 👍 the Swiss chard plants were transplanted in spring and they’re still producing huge stalks! I have them covered in similar hoop structures to protect from the coldest temperatures. We’ll see how this experiment goes.

  12. Will the pill bug (aka) rollie pollies.) Eat my seeds? The reason I'm asking is I did this and there was a bunch of pill bugs under the wood. I wasn't sure if they were going to eat my seeds or not so I lifted the wood up to deter them from eating my seeds

  13. While I was watching I thought to myself, I wonder what he ended up doing with his straw bale garden now that the warm season is over. Are you going to try to reuse those bales? Are you still growing anything in them?
