Probiotics & SIBO with Dr. Jason Hawrelak: Rational Wellness Podcast 329

Dr. Jason Hawrelak discusses Probiotics and SIBO with Dr. Ben Weitz. In this podcast episode, Dr. Jason Hawrelak discusses the use of probiotics for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). He explains that while some studies show probiotics can be helpful for SIBO, the specific strains and types of probiotics used can make a difference. He also discusses the importance of considering the role of dysbiosis in SIBO and the potential benefits of probiotics in treating this condition. Additionally, they touch on the use of prebiotics and biofilm-busting agents in SIBO treatment. Dr. Hawrelak also discusses the potential harm that certain herbs and supplements can have on the gut microbiome, such as berberine. He explains that while berberine can be beneficial for blood sugar control and other conditions, it can also harm beneficial bacteria and decrease microbial diversity in the gut. He suggests being cautious with long-term use of berberine and considering alternative options. Dr. Hawrelak also discusses the use of turmeric and curcumin for visceral hypersensitivity and the potential benefits of soil-based probiotics. He emphasizes the importance of evidence-based practice and choosing interventions that minimize harm to the microbiome.

  1. Like a sibo methane patient, probiotics never help me. I have tried spore probiotics and yeast for years. Tried biogaia too. Only improves something of my brain fog. But it increased my gut pain. Maybe probiotics improves SIBO but not IMO. Is a different condition. Thanks for the video.

  2. Omg…. common sense don't add to the problem …. Total marketing gig where. Is the research. Marketing marketing… This is disgusting.
