~How to Keep Your Garden Tools Safely Rust Free ~ Which Oil is Best (and worst) and Why ~

Keeping our hard working garden tools clean and rust free can be a challenge. They are constantly in contact with plants, soil, and moisture. Often neglected, they can soon be taken over by rust. In this video I share how I care for my tools, which oils I avoid, and which is my preferred lubricant for keeping those hard working tools in top shape.

  1. My grandfather kept a can of sand saturated with used motor oil and poked the blade end of his tools down in it to store them. It kept the blades clean, but motor oil??? Not for me! I like the idea of using a food grade mineral oil. Thanks for the tip!

  2. Here is a wonderful article explaining in more detail about food grade mineral oil. It covers in depth about the refining process and why it’s considered safe. I feel that the ingredients in our makeup and moisturizers are probably more toxic than food or pharmaceutical grade mineral oil. Remember, baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance and Vaseline is “petroleum” jelly. We use it all more than we realize.

  6. great video. i've seen a lot of vids about a bucket of sand and old motor oil, but i don't want motor oil in my garden soil, and on my fruit trees and vegetables. also, why don't they make pruners with stainless steel?
