  1. Such fun!!! I relate So much. I have several quilts that are very special to me. My grandmother made a handmade quilt for each grandchild & then switched to her treadle Singer. She had an electric motor added to it later. It was left to me but I was living in Europe when things were “distributed” & it went to someone else (honest mistake). I have my dad’s wool army blanket that my grandmother used to back a quilt. I, also, have the “yo-yo” quilt that I helped cut out the circles for her. And I inherited a “crazy quilt, a child’s quilt with little girls in bonnets stitched on within large squares. Last & so important…the last quilt my mother’s twin sister made (person I was named after…Jimmie). It is a “wedding ring” quilt. Thanks, Kaye!!!

  2. Oh thank you for the memories. My mother had a cedar chest and a vertical cedar closet ( not attached to a wall) when we were young, back in the 50's. I LOVED the fragrance when she opened it … Magical 🤩

  3. Those quilts are absolutely gorgeous! And the ones that are hand made are just mind blowing, the skill women had back then! Thanks so much for sharing with us Kaye! ❤

  4. Oh wow….I have my Mother's Hope Chest. It's beautiful, all Cedar. Yours is beautiful! I am Ukrainian/Russian too! Their is a metal label on the inside, but i can't remember what it says. I'll check tomorrow. Mine looks similar 😊

  5. Loved this. I have the quilt that my dad's church started for them before they got married and never got finished. They were married in 1943. I think it was 2012 when we visited my Aunt Mary Belle and she and mom were talking and somehow the quilt came up. Aunt Mary Belle asked if mom would like her to finish it. When we got back to Texas, mom mailed up to her in PA. It is beautiful!! One day while I was visiting mom, she asked if I'd like to have it. Of course I was thrilled to be gifted something so wonderful. She also gave me her handkerchief collection to add to mine and her big button box. I cherish them all. I did have a quilt her mom made from her children's clothes that grandma gave me for my 16th birthday and had it in a trunk. I went to get it out and someone had taken the quilt grandma gave me and replaced it with another one. It broke my heart. Some people are just mean. How is your mom? Love and hugs. I'm pretty much finished canning at 576 jars!!! God bless❤

  6. Kaye I have some sliders I got from a hardware store that you can place on the bottoms of dressers and such that allow me to easily move HEAVY pieces of furniture.

  7. Beautiful quilts! There is a story behind the squares of material. Hang your curtains in the kitchen, they are so pretty. ❤ Wonderful story time. Love hearing about your mom and grandparents.

  8. Kaye, It's so comforting to listen to your stories. Those quilts are so lovely and are full of memories from their makers. I love handmade things🤍 This was a delightful video!

  9. Love those quilts! I have many from both my grandmothers. I just love them and I do use them! I can't enjoy them stored away, but I'm careful with them. Love your story times!

  10. I am not certain IF your mom is verbal Kaye, but if she is and you talk about the names on the quilt she may recall who the people are and if not just the mention of the peoples names may bring her treasured memories that may bring her silent joy inside.

  11. Beautiful handmades! My dad’s mom was a crocheter and for his graduation gift he asked for a moss rose bedspread, he had great taste and appreciation for handmade useful art too!

  12. Love handmade. Love vintage. The dress is the same shade of pink as my first prom dress. Yours is beautiful with that back panel! You have a treasure trove of lovely handmade things. Sally Mae! I bought a vintage earthenware bean pot that had the name Sally Mae written on the bottom (in something that doesn't wash off) that she must have put there when she used it for potlucks. I bought it on eBay. It was from Ohio. Fun and interesting video! Thanks for sharing.

  13. Hi Kaye, the last quilt with the names embroidered on it is called a friendship quilt. My Great Aunt had one. You have beautiful quilts. All the memories. Hugs

  14. I absolutely loved this video. I also have a weakness for cedar hope chests. I own three of them. They are all filled with treasures. I'm actually on the hunt for 3 more, but I want them for my sons (never had a daughter). My sons are grown now, but like you probably did…I saved everything from their childhood, school, college, military, etc. I want to put their treasures into a manly cedar chest so they may one day have lots of fun reminiscing about the good old days.

  15. Beautiful, I love old quilts. I didn’t get any of my grandmother’s when she died, but I have bought some beautiful Amish made ones. My grandmother used to put away things we sent her instead of using them. I never could figure out what she was saving them for. She grew up really poor and wasn’t used to having nice things. She was an amazing woman, she could do anything. I’ve got Amish made quilt racks, one that sits on the floor and one that hangs on the wall. I say enjoy them before they end up in a thrift store or something one day after we’re gone. Love your stories. Thank you for sharing.

  16. Just wanted to add that evidently a lot of people didn’t know about cedar being a bug repellant lol. I grew up with my mum putting moth balls in the cedar chest too.

  17. You, your mom, and your grandmother were all talented women!❤ You should display some of those quilts, they are beautiful! Some people frame them under glass. Very fun video! Thanks for sharing.😘❤🙏🏻✨

  18. Kaye, beautiful quilts!!! I am a huge quilt lover!! I have a handmade quilt from my great Aunt, my grandmother and my husband's mother and grandmother. He has his grandmother's old wooden rocker that he rocked in everyday. He has his grandmother's quilt over it and my grandmother's too. As you can tell, we love the old items!!! Take care dear!!!!

  19. Thank you for sharing; love your stories and peeking into your past! : ) I would be proud to have you on my side, and you are perfect just the way you are.

  20. Such treasures held within your beautiful chest. I used to set all my holiday tables with those very linens and the silver & china. Oh how I wish those glorious days of hand stitching and proper sewing had not faded away… Kaye I so enjoyed this video! Bless your ❤️🙏

  21. Thank you so much for sharing those treasures! Rick-rack! Oh yes! I had a good many dresses trimmed with rick-rack 😂! Those quilts are beautiful! I found 2 or 3 in my 1st husband's grandparent's attic (hope you can follow that!) And one had big squares that were put together by different ladies, and were signed, but they were all the same–butterflies! So pretty. Your smaller one could be a wall hanging. I keep bigger ones hanging on a quilt hanger made of wood. I move them around from time to time, and keep them out of direct sunlight.

  22. Kaye, I thoroughly enjoyed this….such beautiful quilts, my favorite one is the smaller one with lavender and blue colors. Pls do more videos like this one. You looked so lovely in this video also….beautiful hair! 😊❤ Thank you so much

  23. Cool! I have my grandmother's cedar chest that is almost exactly like yours. It opens the same way. Grandma was born in 1921, so she would be 102 now. She passed at 92 or 93 and had Alzheimer's her last 3 years. She was a go getter in her day. I think of her often.

  24. My grandparents started out working for a farmer who paid them $1 a day, or a week and supplied their house and food. Grandma cooked on a wood stove, milked cows, churned butter. Grandpa plowed and farmed with horses. Their lives changed exponentially over the years with technology, etc. It's amazing to think about all the change they experienced.. Those may have been the best days in some ways, even though they worked harder than we can imagine. Life was slower then. God bless.

  25. That was fun! Beautiful quilts… lot of talented women in your family!❤ My dad was one of eleven kids that also qas very poor and his family were also share croppers. We both come from hard working families.

  26. Beautiful things Kaye. You are right…they sure don't make things like they used to. Appliances, Cars, clothing everything. I like to say…Old is Gold even for humans because we have knowledge. My 86 yr old father enjoys going to Goodwill and St. Vincent DePaul. He knew I was in search of a couple of antique blue/green canning jars. Omg did he come across a real find. They happened to be in the isle when they were stocking the shelf with 31 of the jars I was looking for. It cost me $50.00 BUT….I did much research and I have several of them from 1910!!!! My dad and step mom called me to ask if I wanted them because they were so dirty. I said YES YES YES!!! I knew then that these were not knock off's. One was listed on eBay for $1,600. I have 8 of them! The rest are from 1923-1932 Not sure what I am going to do with them yet…maybe just hold on to them.
